MotoGP: Nicky Hayden to Ducati claims Rossi

'It is finalised' says 2008 MotoGP championship leader

IT'S REPORTED that seven-time world champion Valentino Rossi has more or less confirmed Nick Hayden is to ride for Ducati in 2009.

The Italian spoke out about the switch while visting Las Vegas for the unveiling of Yamaha's 2009 YZF-R1 road bike. The move will see former world champion Hayden partner current champion Casey Stoner in the Marlboro Ducati team in 2009.

Speaking to Motosprint magazine Hayden said: "This is the time to change: I need to do something different. I can't say too many things now, but there will be an official announcement very soon. I really want to feel again like a teammate, I mean to be in a team where everyone works in the same direction and shares information. I can't wait for that moment to come.

"I have a lot of respect for Casey, for the way he's grown as a rider and the way he does his job. He minds his own business and lets his results do the talking. I'll have no problem with him. The bike (Ducati) has great potential because of its engine and its power. Casey rides it very well, he's strong, and deserves great consideration for it. But I don't want to talk too much before trying it myself."

We reckon it's a done deal and so does Valentino:

"I think that situation is completed, it is finalised," Rossi said when asked about Hayden's move.

Seems like Hayden will be playing second fiddle again?? I hope he takes a big box of toys with him ready for when Stoner throws his out of the pram should Hayden ever contemplate beating him!!!!

Will it work or won't it?? The bike is great but can Hayden get anything from it??

I think both Hayden and Stoner get a bad rap from ignorant Rossi butt fuckers, now i make no bones about the fact i fucking hate Rossi (always have done, but then i have always been a Biaggi fan) He's like the Manchester United of motorcycling, yes he has undeniable skill etc etc but lets not forget that Hayden and Stoner have both proved they can win championships (anyone who says Hayden got given the title by Rossi is a fucking cretin) Stoner is such a talented young racer, he reminds me of dear Max, Rossis has a way of getting into Stoners head and pressuring him into mistakes i hope that together Stoner and Hayden can whitewash Rossi out of the way. When Stoner went off on one after Leguna Seca i though fair fucking play that he didnt give in to that Italian twat and basicaly said a big FARRRK YOOOOU after the race.

Stoner & Hayden @ Ducati... Bring it on!

Well I'm a patriot and want to see JT up there but you can't deny Rossi is the top banana. Hayden and Stoner are both great riders but Rossi has 'that edge'. Does that make me a butt fucker

I like Rossi as a racer, a personality and some might say alledeged sportsman.

But even i get a bit bothered by some of the hardcore Rossi fans who are just on the edge of fanatacism..support you fave rider by all means, but give it up to the other guys if they are doing well too!

Stoner hasn't handled the PR side very well, of which Rossi is a master of we all know, best Stoner should do is to keep as cool as a cucumber on the outside, but be peddaling like a bastard under the skin.

Hayden, Ducati will be last chance saloon for the lad, he's got cock all to lose in MotoGP now, so why not take the Ducati ride, but i fear the Ducati suffers from a sensitive front end, which will trouble hayden unless he can sort it.

Hayden also needs to learn a set up to make a rear tyre last 30 laps, as i have no doubt regarding his speed in the early stages of the race, but once his rear tyre is shot it's hello 9th place.

From the start of this season as Hayden continued to get the royal shafting from Honda that started back when they announced they had built the 800cc bike for the spanish midget not their world champion rider...... As it also became evident that no one could tame the ducati but the little ozzie whose 'secret' is ride it as hard as you can and try not to fall off. And As we all know Hayden likes power- I've been thinking why doesn't Hayden sign for Ducati...I got my wish and I'm happy I think it will be good.  If we could have Randy de Crashiet's ride given to someone who is more disposed to bike riding than aerial acrobatics we might have a championship.

Yes but there is always a need for a serial crasher. Stoner was at one point. Think he's been trying to rediscover that of late.

PMSL, Biaggi is the biggest cock going!

How many world championships has he won?

Takes a giant sized knob jockey to know one I guess.

On the subject of PR and Stoner bashing, I have to say that, credit should be given where credit is due.  Stoner is the only rider on that grid who really takes it to Valli  at the moment, all the others are too busy being scared of him.  I like Colin Edwards but you can't physically and psychologically be competitive against someone you regard as the greatest of all time.  I think a lot of the field suffer from this affliction and let Valli pass them without too much of a fight....maybe thats just resignation through experience though........has anyone else noticed that his outbraking technique seems to be wait until the other guy breaks and then pull the lever some time after that?

So anyway they are both talented riders, but Rossi is the bigger personality, should it count for anything...depends what you think the whole thing is about, in my view its about entertainment, you can dress it up in as much 'technoligical development' and sportsmanship all you like.  Ultimately It's about bums on seats,  for me I don't find Stoners style exciting...get off the grid like a rocket go as fast as you can and don't look back.  I wouldn't want to travel half way across the continent to see it and I might even get bored of watching it on the telly.  I have nothing against Stoner I admire him, but I like and admire Rossi, I am entertained by him and his riding, I believe that he knows that entertainment is at the heart of motoGP and to that end always puts on the best show he can.

To quote the film Gladiator

Proximo: Listen to me. Learn from me. I was not the best because I killed quickly. I was the best because the crowd loved me. Win the crowd and you will win your freedom.

I suppose it does fulfill my 'entertainment' criteria, what would we do without old randy highsiding when the racing gets boring

Definitely!!

I reckon you summed it up with other riders being 'in awe' and to a point scared. Pedrobot is a good rider but you can see in corners he bottles it a long time before Rossi. Stoner does at least try and fight. I reckon next year could see Dovizioso, hopefully JT and Lorenzo giving them both a run for they're money!!

I agree next season could well be really good..... as long as they don't cock it up with a load of unnecessary safety regulations,

Posted: 11/09/2008 at 01:38

Hmmm!!!Just as well its not run from England or they would all have stabilisers   if bloody health and safety get hold of it!!!

Posted: 11/09/2008 at 01:39

would the stabilisers be on michelin and the wheels on bridgestone?

No shit, Sherlock

I think Hayden can do well on the Ducati. Honda have tried to engineer out his individual riding style and turn him into another Pedrosa. He should have more free reign at Ducati to set up the bike to suit his needs.

Posted: 11/09/2008 at 06:19

I wonder if Hayden has actually checked out the situation at Ducati.  I think they've got two teams over there- Casey's and the other guy's.  Information sharing and one big happy family are pipe dreams, I think.

Having said that, Nicky needs to leave Repsol Honda.  And, Ducati has the all the ingredients for a championship.  Good luck, Nicky.  Take it to 'em!

I'd rather watch a turd break down naturally than watch the poor sportsmanship that Stoner showed us all after he lost to Rossi in Laguna. The race proved to me that when it comes to a close race the better rider won fair & square.

Stoner may find it easier to win from the front rather than mix it up with a pack of riders, there are'nt many races he's won by coming through the pack to take the lead.

Credit where its due, he is a fast rider and in time will be a better rider but he has a lot to prove at the moment.

Go and stand in the corner Timmy.

Repeat a 100 times - " I must not talk with the big boys when I know the square root of fuck all about the subject matter."

Donington last year didn't Stoner start from the third row and trance everyone in the rain and give them a lesson - agreed that he does win from the front but that is usually as he has out qualified everbody else - thought he was a bit of a twat though after Laguna - racings racing should have took it on the chin

My tip is Lorenzo although my sense of patriotism would like JT
