MotoGP: Hungary Grand Prix faces axe

New 2.8-mile Balatonring circuit won't be ready in time, says government minister

THE HUNGARIAN MotoGP race looks set to be axed due to problems with the construction of the new Balatonring circuit, said Istvan Gyenesei, the minister for local government, earlier today.

The blame has been pointed at Spanish group Sedesa, which is building the 80-million-euro track, as the company failed to begin its part of the construction work on time, the minister said.

"So, it's very likely that the circuit won't be ready and the race won't be able to go ahead. But we've had no official word from the Spanish side," Gyenesei said.

Last year Visordown gave you the heads-up that the China GP was axed to make way for the new Hungarian circuit.

The race was scheduled to take place on September 20th 2009.
