MotoGP: British GP to Silverstone in 2010

Donington Park to lose Brit GP after Northamptonshire circuit secures premier motorcycle event for 2010

Alterations will be made to comply with FIA demands

INSIDE SOURCES have told visordown news that Silverstone circuit in Northamptonshire is to host the British Motorcycle Grand Prix from 2010.

Apparently the Northamptonshire-based track has secured the prestigious motorcycle racing event after an agreement was reached between FIA safety officials and the track's owners about Bridge Corner - the fast right-hander leading up to the new Luffield complex - as it was deemed unsafe for MotoGP competition. Modifications are to be made over the next two years, to make the ultra-fast right hander comply with the FIA's requests.

Present hosts of the event, Donington Park, had no comment to make on the developments when we phoned them earlier today.

Great, Britain's round of motoGP moves to the most boring, least spectator friendly race circuit.  I can't wait.

as long as its on the full circuit i dont mind that...

but if they run it on the same short circuit they do for bsb and wsb then booo hisss jeer mock twats

Posted: 07/05/2008 16:04

Thats wank!

Donington park is the place for MotoGP (and its 10 mins away from my house)

How shitty is this! I hope its lies...

Posted: 07/05/2008 16:05

Roberts v Sheene duel in the sun wasnt boring on the full circuit! Lap after lap of 2 great racers battling it out!
Posted: 07/05/2008 16:11

Should be at Brands.
Posted: 07/05/2008 16:22

^^^^^^ wot he said
Posted: 07/05/2008 16:27

you think the gp and international track are boring ??? hmrc race on the national circuit and thats a bigger shithole than tesco's car park
Posted: 07/05/2008 16:29

I was every GP a Silverstone before it moved to Donington and there was some fantastic racing but if you blinked you missed, haven't been there since but the circuit has had major changes so might be better but it still going to be fast, but look at some of the other circuits fast and good racing or twisty and processional?

I am not keen on Donington your too far from the track and those ***** (insert own explitive) airplanes every 5 mins drive me mad, the track is nice to ride though but not as good as Oulton pity we can't get the MotoGP there but the M6 grinds to halt everyday as it is so you would grid lock Cheshire with a MotoGP crowd for days!

Indeed, one race in 30 years. Can you recall any other great races at silverstone?

you must be mad to think that the gp can go to brands!!!

check out the run off at turn 1 for starters!!!

I see your Mallory and raise you the Three Sisters international raceway in Wigan!

Posted: 07/05/2008 17:44

or Lydden?

the toilet (sic) would need upgrading.

Donington is a cool track, and good for spectators, which in the age of multicast international TV counts for precisely f**k all. We've all had issues getting in and out of there, but Silverstone, christ, it's dull.

What's the next step in the Formula1isation of motogp?, after traction control and shared use of the same circuits could we expect the adoption of additional wheels in the coming years until we have a rival series?

Then we'll just need a sexual deviant at the helm and we're sorted.

Silverstone - 45 minutes from my house, and I don't want the GP there. Nuff said.

I WOULD OF HAVE THOUGHT THIS UNLIKELY. THERE NOT RUNNING WORLD SUPERS THERE ANYMORE DUE TO HAVING TO CANCELL RACE TWO LAST YEAR, BECAUSE OF RAIN THE CIRCUIT WAS DEEMED TO DANGEROUS.... WE CALL IT SLIPPY STONE, AND THE WATER DOES SEEM TO HOLD,,, THEY,LL HAVE TO DO ALOT OF WORK TO THE TRACK,I'D HAVE THOUGHT.
Posted: 07/05/2008 18:07

Sliverstone would be bad enough to put decent people off watching Moto GP. It's dull as ditchwater.
Posted: 07/05/2008 18:09

Great.  It's 4 hours to get to Donington from where I live, and Silvershite is another 1+ from there at best.  Not only that, but it is a truly awful circuit for bike racing.  A plague on all those responsible.
Posted: 07/05/2008 18:38

BOOOOOO!

 There goes my annual pilgrimage!

Perhaps the constant track invasions at Donington had something to do with it (if its true).

A bit of history here http://www.bikesportnews.com/articles/article.html?id=DONINGTON_TO_LOSE_MOTOGP_ROUND_IN_2010_1 http://www.crash.net/motorsport/motogp/news/159734-0/silverstone_wants_british_motogp.html
Posted: 07/05/2008 20:26

They should use the TT Course !!!!
Posted: 07/05/2008 20:51

Yeh would like to see Donno keep Motogp, but believe their rights to run it are up after this years event. Might depend on what Dorna want the circuit to do regarding any upgrade in facilities not just track , but spectator, media, paddock, and garage etc. Dorna are similar to Bernie Ecclestone in F1 If they think you might fullfill every request they can pull the plug, and move elsewhere
Posted: 07/05/2008 21:17

ST4
I'm sure Dorna couldn't care less about spectator facilities!  All the upgrades they are wanting Donington and Silverstone to make are all to do with paddock space, media suites, pit lane etc!
Posted: 07/05/2008 21:28

I say Cadwell for the GP
Posted: 07/05/2008 21:44

absolutely scandalous, why on earth would it go to silverstone again.

i can remember it years ago back in the sheene/mamola/spencer era when it was the old circuit and much better than nowadays.

the main problem with donington is the too small a paddock for the ever growing motogp paddock. if you ever get the chance to get into the gp paddock and have a look around you'd understand. even dorna now have 3 or 4 large trailers for a paddock suite whihc takes up space. donington need to knock down the old rolls royce factory down and extend and modernise the facilities and it should then be able to keep the gp

i do hope it doesnt go to silverstone for the racing but on the plus side the toilets for spectators were cleaner at silverstone

Posted: 07/05/2008 21:52

ST4  A good point about Dorna ,but do think certain areas have to be considered regarding spectators like food outlets toilets viewing and merchandising outlets information contact points are all taken into account as an overall view of any circuits facilities

Posted: 07/05/2008 21:53

deej77 the old Silverstone track up to around 86 when it was last there I think was a brilliantly fast place with good gp racing. Donington then ran it from 87 winning the best GP that year, but as time goes by it has struggled to upgrade its main facilities e.g paddock and the like to accommodate the changing requirements of GP teams and all the other circus that follows it, but new Silverstone not as good as 80's and earlier..
Posted: 07/05/2008 22:04

Donnington are knocking down the factory right now, and it should be down by this year's Moto GP, and the paddock extended into this area.

As for Silverstone, what about the run off (or lack of it) on the Start/finish straight. I heard from a very reliable source that it was more than just Bridge Corner which needed work on it.

Posted: 07/05/2008 22:11

That could be for the Redgate pub lounge extension Andy and nowt to do with the paddock
Posted: 07/05/2008 22:16

Andy the old Silverstone track when I marshalled at the GPs there used to have the catch fencing on all corners and was very fast even in mid 80s fastest laps were around 116mph. That would'nt happen now, and with Franco Uncini (God bless him) being the Riders Safety Rep he would surely give his comments on any safety issues to the circuit putting on Motogp. Don't imagine that tap on the head he got from Wayne Gardner that time at Assen has done him any good (only kidding)
Posted: 07/05/2008 22:31

this is SHITE news..... Silverstone is a BORING circuit to watch racing at. Donington is special..... BUT...

I have to say Donington have brought this upon themselves - they've had premier races there for years and FAILED to update the track and facilities in any meaningful way. Take a look at the circuits around the world - Donington is a disgrace by comparison to circuits abroad (seating for a few hundred for instance).

For me, Donington will always be the home of the MotoGp though..... I love riding there its magic. Silverstone will never be like that.

This is sad news...

surely they cant make a grid full of GP bikes go through that chicane??
Posted: 08/05/2008 08:33

^ ''Welcome to the fucking chicane'' was Toseland response when asked about it. The corner really isn't GP standards.
Posted: 08/05/2008 09:01

Can't they just skip the chicane, as they do in F1.

Been round the circuit and the chicane onto the start finish was the slowest crappiest piece of crap that I have been round on a bike.

Figure of 8 round cones on a CBT is more interesting

Posted: 08/05/2008 09:13

Its better for me to get to (ABout an hour and half), but as others have said Donny is better for the spectators. Last time I went to SIlverstine it still looked like a bit of a dump in places.

There must also be a reason why Jonathan Palmer's Motorsport Vision dont want to buy it....

Do MSV have a track that meets the required standards?
Posted: 08/05/2008 12:00

I don't think so Burty
Posted: 08/05/2008 13:00

I suspect that might have something to do with it then.
Posted: 08/05/2008 13:59

Either Donnington or Brands would be good in my book and fuck the run off, the WSB boys do it and GP bikes ain't that much quicker.

Silverstone is the most boring circuit to watch racing at ever devised. That'll be me watching it on telly from 2010 then.
