Warrs Harley-Davidson racer and newly crowned British XR1200 Champion, Jeremy McWilliams, has won a major race in the USA.
The ex MotoGP star rode the guest Vance and Hines Harley XR1200 at the Barber Motorsports round of the USA series.
McWilliams qualified in third place, posted the quickest lap time in wet warm-up and led every lap of the race to pocket the $3,750 first prize. Despite initial pressure from series regular Michael Barnes, the 46 year-old Ulsterman was in a class of his own, despite riding with two recently broken ribs and a cracked pelvic bone.
‘To be honest, I played my injuries down a bit before the race at Barber,’ said McWilliams. ‘I had to race at Goodwood five days after I picked up the breaks and they really weren’t keen on letting me race because if I crashed again there’s a big risk of puncturing a lung. So I thought it’d be best if I just kept quiet about it all before Barber. I did my own thing in qualifying and just tried to stay out of trouble. To be honest, I was glad it was a wet race because it’s less physical racing in the rain. I was also pretty glad that Jake Holden missed our race because he’d have pressured me, for sure.’
