Marquez wins 2014 Superprestigio DTX

Jared Mees and Kenny Noyes finish on the podium alongside the MotoGP Champ

DOUBLE MotoGP champion Marc Marquez has ended the 2014 season in style after winning the Superprestigio DTX in Barcelona on Saturday night.

The Superprestigio DTX line-up consisted of ten world champions from numerous motorcycle disciplines. Marquez finished on the top step of the podium, followed by AMA Grand National winner Jared Mees and American Kenny Noyes.

The night was split into the Superprestigio and Open categories. Marquez won three of the four finals in the Superprestigio class whilst overall third place Mees won all of the Open class races.

In the final, which consisted of eight top riders from both categories, there was a 12-lap Superfinal. Mees and Marquez wet head-to-head in front of the Catalan crowd, but it was Marquez who crossed the line first by only 0.289 seconds.

Speaking after the event, Marquez said: “I’m happy and I’ve enjoyed all the way. I want to that all my fellow riders for putting such a show together and make it possible for the second edition.

“The best new today was to know that Brad [Baker] was okay at the end after his accident.”

“This event had a lot of media attention and the public in the grandstands were very generous. I was a little bit nervous before the Superfinal because I knew Jared Mees was really fast, but I’m happy and relieved now,” concluded Marquez.

Britain’s Bradley Smith finished eighth, but did win two earlier heats. Scott Redding also made his debut alongside Alex Marquez and Tito Rabat in the Superprestigio, but did not make the top eight.

Last year’s Superprestigio winner Brad Bake, also the 2013 AMA Grand National winner, dislocated his left shoulder in a practice crash and therefore was ruled out of the rest of the night.
