YOUNG road racer Mark Madsen-Mygdal died following a crash in this morning's Southern 100 Supersport race.
23-year old Madsen-Mygdal, from the Isle of Man, was racing his Yamaha R6 at the time of the incident. Mark Madsen-Mygdal started racing in 1997 and won the Isle of Man 600cc Championship in 2011.
His father, Dave Madsen-Mygdal is an experienced road racer himself, the 57-year-old made his TT debut in 1985 and is the first rider to compete in 100 races there, following on from his father Dick, who raced in the 1950s. Mark's father Dave is also racing at this year's Southern 100 on a Honda Fireblade.
A statement from organisers reads:
"The Southern 100 MCRC, organisers of the Southern 100 International Road Races, regret to announce the death of Mark Madsen-Mygdal, from Douglas, Isle of Man following an incident at Stadium Corner during the 600cc Supersport race on Thursday morning.
Mark Madsen-Mygdal, 23, leaves a mother and father. Southern 100 Racing extends its sincere condolences to families, relatives and friends at this very sad time."
