The second big player quits AMA Superbikes, but not for financial reasons, say Kawasaki
KAWASAKI MOTORS USA has withdrawn from the American Superbike series, said Kawasaki’s US Director of Marketing, Bruce Stjernstrom.
The company are dropping the flagship US series in favour of the AMA 600cc class, with Roger Hayden and one other rider to campaign the all-new 2009 ZX-6R.
“We will not be racing Superbikes,” said Stjernstrom. The new 600cc team, which is to be called Monster Energy Attack Kawasaki.
Kawasaki are keen to point out the decision wasn't a financial one: "It was just more of a directional thing that we wanted to be in what we thought was the direction that they were going in and the premiere class, and that's what we decided," said Stjernstrom.
Kawasaki aren't the first to make the move; last month Honda announced the company was withdrawing from the AMA Superbike series.
