JOHN McGUINNESS has smashed the 130mph lap barrier on the Isle of Man - in only his fourth practice session.

Riding the HM Plant Honda Fireblade the 14-time TT race winner put in a fastest time last night of 130.171mph - a fraction slower than his outright lap record set in 2007, that was a best lap of 130.354mph.

It was an incredible lap, by the time he was at Ballaugh Bridge he had already posted an average speed of 139.318mph and going on to go through the Sulby speed trap at 191.2mph.

By the time he got to the Ramsey Hairpin McGuinness has logged an average speed of 142.473mph.

Second quickest was Guy Martin who clocked a best of 129.168mph and went through the speed trap at 188.5mph.

Steve Plater was third quickest last night in almost perfect conditions, the BSS runner managed a best lap of 128.453 and a Sulby quickest speed of 189.6mph.
