Don't Honda own Suzuka?

It's coming to something when they withdraw from the most prestigious race on their domestic calendar. It's like a team pulling out of the FA Cup, for financial reasons over here.

That is bad news, and suprising as well, the 8 hour is touted usually as the most imprtant race on the Japanese racing calender

None of the others have taken me by suprise really, subaru, honda F1, suzuki rally etc, even Honda pulling the plug on the AMA and Aussie superbikes, but this one does

I have a theory on this.

Honda have pulled out of F1 and Suzuka, forcing every other team to scrutinize their spending, make cutbacks, halt development, etc.

In the meantime, HRC (and the equivalent car race dept) will be a hive of activity, developing a new car/bike for a major assault, once the other teams have rested on their laurels.

The reason they haven't pulled out of motogp is because they stand a better chance of winning.

Just a thought.
