Channelling Mr Daytona

ELENA MYERS made history at Daytona after becoming the first female to win a professional motorsport race at the speedway circuit.

Myers claimed her second career AMA victory in the second Supersport race at the opening round at Daytona. The 18-year-old achieved her first accolade of becoming the first female to win an AMA road race in 2010, winning at Infineon.

The American teenager was sixth in the opening Supersport race over the weekend and learning from her mistakes, she took advantage of the draft to the line on the final lap to win the second race by 0.239.

After making history she said: "I just won Daytona! Pretty crazy way to start the season. Man, I didn't think I was going to do it when I was coming down the straight, but somehow I pulled it off. The craziness of Daytona! I was hoping to get a win this weekend and I can't thank Suzuki and my team enough for doing a great job."

The next milestone for Elena is achieving her dream and making becoming the first female MotoGP rider, a small step she already made after riding the Suzuki GSV-R ahead of last year's race at Indianapolis.

Does help she's a bit of a looker, eh?

Will do wonders for MotoGP's popularity (among spotty 17 year olds)!

But seriously, well done to her, and I hope she makes it!
