Dunlop to supply Harley-Davidson XR1200 Cup

Brit tyre giant back in BSB with new Harley deal

Posted: 6 January 2009
by Visordown News

DUNLOP is back in the high-profile British Superbike meetings, as suppliers to the Harley-Davidson XR1200 championship for the coming season.

The Birmingham-based company already has close links with the manufacturer through its supply of Original Equipment (OE) Qualifier tyres for the road-going version of the XR1200. Dunlop was also the chosen supplier for this year's one-off Italian Harley-Davidson XR1200 race event.

The manufacturer will provide a full factory race fitting service at each of the ten races across eight events on the 2009 British Superbike Championship calendar. Dunlop has also pledged to give each entrant to the series a full set of D209 GP Racer tyres, one front and two rears, free of charge for the opening event at Brands Hatch on 11-13 April and the final race at Silverstone on 25-27 September.

As a former H-D U.S. Twin Sports racer I wish I could come over for the series. There were incredible fields initially and close packs of Riders. Those Sportsters were a handful but if you could handle one any other machine was a breeze.

There used to be a series in britain for 1200 sportsters, very close racing and the noise was tremendous.

Welcome to VD Slo Jon, it's customary for newbies to get a virtual round in; I'm off to work, so I'll just have a large vodka.

Thanks for the drink   Believe a reason the Racing is rather dismal here in the States is partially due to minimal starter Classes in Series. To begin Road Racing on a 100+HP machine can put a young person on the sidelines quickly.
