"I could see how driven he was and I've always felt the same"
AUSTRALIAN FORMULA ONE driver Mark Webber has said fellow countryman Mick Doohan has been an inspiration in the success of his racing career.
Webber, who drives for the Red Bull Formula One team and currently ranks 4th in the 2010 F1 World Championship, revealed the source of his drive to succeed in an interview with the Daily Telegraph newspaper.
The Australian said his successful return to F1 racing following a serious cycling accident in 2008 was partly thanks to his own gritty determination - a quality he believes he shares with former multiple 500cc champion Doohan.
"I'm very lucky that Australia has some sensational sportsmen and women from whom I've been able to draw inspiration," said Webber. "You look at what Mick Doohan achieved in motorcycle racing, for instance, and the way he kept bouncing back from injury.
"I could see how driven he was and I've always felt the same. It's not a question of trying to make history, it's simply about giving it your best shot every time."
