Following the breaking news story on Visordown yesterday, the Wheatcroft family start court proceedings against Donington Ventures
FOLLOWING THE breaking news story on Visordown yesterday surrounding Donington Park's lack of FIM licence, we can now reveal that the owners of the East Midlands circuit are taking legal action against the track's new operators, Donington Ventures.
The circuit's owners, Wheatcroft & Son Ltd, has issued proceedings at Derby County Court, for payment of £2.47million pounds in rent arrears and forfeiture of the circuit lease.
Donington Ventures was given the 150-year lease in January 2007 and in July 2008 secured a 10-year contract to host the British Grand Prix, currently run at Silverstone, from next year.
"Despite receiving numerous reassurances over a number of months they have consistently failed to meet their financial obligations under the terms of the lease," Kevin Wheatcroft.
"We have held off taking legal action for as long as possible but have been left with no choice but to commence proceedings to recover the outstanding rent and forfeit the lease."
The announcement confirms the fears of many race fans; both British bike and car Grand Prix are now under serious threat, as well as the British Superbikes round scheduled at the end of May.
