Donington Park - the latest

We broke the news last week, now here's the official line from Donington Park

VISORDOWN was the first to bring you news of the stumbling circuit works at Donington and now it sounds as though the Donington round of the BSB championship scheduled for the end of May will go ahead at the midlands track.

Donington bosses have released a statement claiming that everything will be all nice and shiny by the time the two-wheelers are due to turn up, despite a host of events at the circuit already being cancelled or re-scheduled.

Here's the statement from the track in full:

Donington Park has received firm confirmation and assurance from British Superbike Championship (BSB) organisers, MSVR, that the third round of the 2009 series will proceed at the circuit on Spring Bank Holiday weekend (23-25 May). Donington Ventures Leisure Limited (DVLL) has submitted a signed contract for the event and payment has been accepted by MSVR.

Donington Park contractors Amphion have submitted written confirmation that all required works will be completed ahead of 21 May, in time for the scheduled MCRCB inspection.

The news quashes recent rumours including the potential movement of the third round of BSB to an alternative circuit. Donington Park is a world class venue, the home of the British round of the MotoGP and World Superbike championships. It is likely that any potential World Superbike wild cards will be keen to race at Donington Park BSB to gather experience, which will help to provide a competitive advantage. Being unable to support the world aspirations of British riders in the domestic series would have been potentially devastating for all concerned.

"We're delighted that we have been able to reach an amicable agreement with MSVR to continue to host the third round of the 2009 British Superbike Championship in May," said Donington Park circuit owner Simon Gillett. "Our main priority was not to let the fans down, so it's satisfying to see our hard work behind the scenes paying off."

Entrance tickets to the 2009 British Superbike Championship are on sale at www.donington-park.co.uk. Alternatively, please call 0871 2307134 for advance and grandstand tickets.

Todays qualifying and several races took place for the Masters Historic  Car Race Meeting. So Must have a MSA Certificate to run that event I believe the circuit alterations by the new tunnel are still to be slightly improved for the BSB round at the end of May Bank Holiday weekend, but everythings looking good for that to happen

Don't know about that Wavydave think Bernie had enough of Silverstone, rightly or wrong he doesn't need to keep F1 in uk. There isn't a law that says F1 has to have a British round. There are Countries every year trying to get an F1 slot, but never make it more often than not there are enough dates already no one could expect F1 could run 12 months continuous with say 20 rounds. I hope Donington can save the day, but if it disappears it will be a shame for British Motorsport.
