DARLEY MOOR has suffered a set-back after its application for additional testing days was refused by the local council.
The circuit, which is also an active airfield, has host motor racing since the 1950s and is currently permitted 14 race days a year, however it had applied for 34 practice and test days.
Planning officers from Derbyshire Dales District Council said “The development proposal significantly increases the number of days when motorcycle activities at the site occur which would consequently result in a significant increase in the frequency of occasions when unacceptable noise levels occur within the locality.
“As a consequence of the increased activity and associated noise, unacceptable cumulative harm would result to the residential amenity of occupiers of properties living within and close to Edlaston, Wyaston and Hales Green.
Local resident Jon Edwards, who lives half a mile from the track said: “The days they have got, at 14, are adequate."
Which leads us to ask the question: who buys a house near a race circuit without realising they can be noisy?
