SAD NEWS: A French motorcycle racer has died after 24 years in a coma following a crash in the 1986 Paris-Dakar Rally.

Jean-Michel Baron passed away at the age of 56, after spending almost quarter of a century in what's been reported as a 'vegetative state' following a crash on the infamous Dakar Rally.

Baron was just 31 years old at the time of the crash; the Frenchman spent several months in hospital before being taken home, where he survived with the help of his dedicated wife, Jocelyne.

So, so tragic. My condolences go to his wife, to whom I have so much respect for what he's been doing all this long time, family and friends.

Rest In Peace.

Dark times for motorcycle racing community.

Geeezus 24 yrs in a vegetative state. I GUARANTEE you that Jean would not have wanted to live that way. Shame on his family for keeping him breathing but not alive

What ? 24 years in a coma ? I didn't even know that was possible. That sure is dedication, but I hope know one keeps me in a coma for that long. I lived for two years in vegetative state with my ex and that was bad enough.

You don't know if it was his family that kept him alive. He could be breathing without the assistance of any machine. What were them to do, put a pillow over his mouth?? It takes a very special person to take care for so long for somebody in his condition. They deserve respect from everyone.
