BSB: Mallory Park - Race 1 result

Race goes ahead despite rain at Mallory Park

SHANE ' Shakey' Byrne won the first of two races at Mallory Park, round nine of the British Superbike Championship.

The win was Shakey's first of the season and the Stobart Honda rider held off a hard-charging Jonathan Rea, closely followed by Leon Haslam on his Airwaves Ducati.

Ryuichi Kiyonari, Rea's HM Plant team mate crashed at Edwina's chicane. The hard-nut Japanese rider did get back into the race but was black-flagged by marshalls, as half of his belly pan had come adrift and was dragging along the circuit.

Chris 'The Stalker' Walker was running in second place, but lost pace later on in the race and finished fourth, while Gregorio Lavilla took fifth place - amazing, considering he's riding with badly bruised ribs from when he was run over by Tommy Hill at Oulton Park.
