Byrne now leads the championship by 68 points

SHANE BYRNE increased his lead in the Bennett's British Superbike Championship by winning race two at Donington Park today.

The Airwaves Ducati rider, who took victory in race one, sealed the double win during the closing stages of the final race, crossing the line just 0.3 seconds ahead of HM Plant Honda's Leon Haslam.

Haslam's team-mate, Cal Crutchlow, took third position, with Airwaves Ducati's Leon Camier clinching fourth.

Byrne said: “Race one was great, I got a good start and was in front for most of the race but it still felt great to take that first win. I was a little nervous ahead of race two and unfortunately my start was nowhere near as good; the conditions felt a lot windier and with a bad start I had made it hard work for myself. I got a bit knocked about on the first few corners and I was quite far down the field but I didn’t worry about it too much. I just took my time before kicking up a gear and making my move on the leaders. I left it quite late to overtake Haslam but I was pleased I was able to pass him and take another double win for Airwaves Ducati.”

The win gives Byrne his sixth victory from eight races and a lead of 68 points in the championship.

It's nice to see "Shakey" back in top form. It's been a few years since we've seen Shane perform like this. I guess he's finally got his bike and team sorted.

I hope he takes the title this year. I'd also like to see "Shakey" Byrne riding a Ducati in World Superbike. MotoGp never worked out for him, but he's an incredible rider and belongs in a top Championship on a Works bike. .....Remeber his WSBK wildcard debut..........That was Awesome. That's what I want to see again.

Keep it up "Shakey" !

He is a big headed fucker, good rider but a bit of a twat off the bike and not hear say either, first hand knowledge

I agree with Harry, but he is a great rider.

He's no Bayliss though.

That wildcard ride was very much assisted by a recent BSB meeting which gave the wildcards a distinct hop up on set-up. I wouldn't expect that or similar week-in week-out.

ST4

And a big thanks from all the people who perhaps haven't been able to watch it yet.

Good first post fella.

I've given up with that ST4, I just don't log on here if I'm in that situation.

I spotted this news news feature before I managed to view the race as well. Hardly the first posters fault.  It was on the main page on Tuesday. Thanks VD!!!!
