Brands Hatch circuit to be revised

Brands Hatch's niggly left-hander to undergo modifications

Graham Hill bend has proved tricky for many riders over the years

MOTORSPORT Vision, the owners of Brands Hatch circuit, have submitted plans to alter Graham Hill bend in 2012.

MSV want to change the track running up to the corner from Druids, making it totally straight and removing the kink. Graham Hill bend itself will also be altered to become a constant radius left.

The plans, if approved, won't affect the circuit for the 2012 season as construction would take place towards the end of the year.

The corner, which was called Bottom Bend until 1976, has been modified before to improve run-off and safety.

An odd decision. If a rider goes in too hot and gets on the gas early, what should they expect? It is part of being a skillful rider.

You might as well turn it into a drag strip!

Don't mess with the best circuit in the country, just get World Superbikes there again.

Agree with icedfusion and Wayne Noble, why change it? All racers will do is use the new surface to go in even faster, not sure how that will make things safer...

I don't have a problem with a revision to the corner, as Graham Hill bend has been altered in the past from a constant wide-radius corner (following the line of the current spectator banking) , to what it is now.

It would be more of a uniform corner if it was a straight entry, however I wonder what size of corner radius they would use - i.e. revert to the original swept corner making the bikes closer to the fans on south bank or further down towards the marshals post.

Either way as long as they alter the banking / fence line accordingly it should be ok! we'll see in 2013 anyway...

If they are putting it back to how it was, can we have Dingle Dell Chicane back please... and shouldnt that be running down to the corner, or are we going further back in time and running the other way (again) - why not cover it in grass and we can all watch in black and white!

These are'nt the droids were looking for!
I totally agree with the change it would be good as i do trackdays there alot, its a bit of a bugger coming out of druids its the first and nearly only left handed bend (indy circuit) and in second gear hard on the brakes the bend then has a kink which you are moving the bike over more to the left as you brake hard, the tire doesnt get used much on the left and it does feel like an odd corner, if it was one straight then a nice bend which you could get on the gas it would be safer, ive seen lots of crashes there and it cost lots when you have an off...

Constant Radius Bends ?
BORING !
Crap to watch and take no skill to ride.
What Brands (and all the rest) needs is wider tarmac so there are more lines around the bends.
Making it simpler and faster will turn it into a one-line bend with even less overtaking = boring races.
Interesting races = difficult corners !
