BBC NORTHERN Ireland viewers are to be treated this coming weekend to a documentary on the life of road racing legend Joey Dunlop.

‘Joey Dunlop — Remembered’ will be screened on Saturday to coincide with the North West 200 festival.

Dunlop was killed in July 2000 while racing in Estonia.

The celebration of Dunlop's life, which includes interviews with the racer's family and close friends, includes emotional footage from Joey's daughter.

BBC NI presenter Stephen Watson: “I think the most striking moment came when Joey’s daughter Joanne said that she hadn’t realised how famous her father was until she looked out of the window on the day of the funeral and saw those thousands of people.”

An estimated 50,000 mourners from all over the world turned out to the Ballymoney racer's send-off.
