IT LOOKS as though the back injury Hector Barbera suffered in testing last month has cleared up nicely, with the Spanish rider on it yesterday during the first of a three-day test at Jerez.

Barbera stormed to a best of 1m 43.156 in the dying moments of the final 250cc World Championship session, his time was 0.3s quicker than the previous best which was set my reigning quarter-litre World Champ Marco Simoncelli.

Alvaro Bautista was third fastest, while Thai rider Ratthapark Wilairot continued his incredible pace in the pre-season tests by setting the fourth fastest time.

Results:

1: Hector Barbera 1m 43.156
2: Alvaro Bautista 1m 43.596
3: Ratthapark Wilairot 1m 43.785
4: Marco Simoncelli 1m 43.833
5: Gabor Talmasci 1m 43.444
