AMA: Mladin speaks out against governing body

"Nobody is going to open their mouths until probably somebody dies"

FORMER AMA Superbike Champion Mat Mladin has spoken out against the American Motorcyclists Association after disaster was narrowly averted in Sunday's Superbike race at Laguna Seca.

On the opening lap of the race riders entered turn eleven to find the circuit's "safety car" parked on the track. Several riders only saw the vehicle at the last minute before swerving to avoid the car, which was sitting on the fastest part of the track.

During the ensuing press conference Mladin said:

"I think the most important thing is that everybody around here is actually scared to say what actually happened out there ... because there's always punishment around for opening your mouth or telling it like it is. Nobody is going to open their mouths until probably somebody dies, so nobody is going to do anything about it. It's a real shame that it has come to this."

It seems like Mat's holding back; can anyone pinpoint what he's trying to infer?

Anyone see the fiasco of a season-opener at Daytona? The 'safety' car caused a massive pile up there. There's something amiss with the whole show and Mladin is to be congratulated for speaking out. He might be the only one who can get away with it because he's such a star. The AMA/DMG need to sort their crap out before someone gets killed.

I didn't see it, which channel is showing AMA races this year?

Speed TV in the US are, but none of the regularly accessible from UK channels are this year as far as I can make out - certainly Motors (sky 413)  who screened it  last year aren't.

It was generally dull at ditchwater last year, so no great loss IMO, although I would like to see exactly what went on at Laguna.

On a similar note even in this Country events like that have happened, and because there was no serious outcome I suppose it was washed aside ah well no one else got hurt as a result of these three instances I remember well. Cadwell Park around 1978 Famous Dutch Wil Hartog rider had to avoid an ambulance which came on the track in front of him on start straight before the race was stopped in fact Wil could have been the ambulances casualty. Silverstone GP 1980 Patrick Pons fatally injured on Beckets while being attented  to a Doctors car crosses the track from infield to the rider and parked on the crash area on the exit of corner trackside race wasn't stopped. Oulton Park 1981 Course car came onto track during race in front of leading riders going into Old Hall they all braked suddenly only after several more moments was the race stopped a rider was fatally injured at Knickerbrook. All these examples could have lead to more tradegy.  Even Mallory has had a few close ones where the paddock has let traffic out as a race has started. Not very nice... but should be a thing of the past

Certainly the incidents  mentioned in your  post are a thing of the past -  things (generally speaking in most of the racing world ) ain't what they used to be etc...

This is what happens when a bunch of southern NASCAR hicks take over bike racing in the States and are more interested in chasing cash than looking after the riders .

The whole deal is one big cluster f-ck.  Many fans aren't even going to the AMA races now it is so bad.  Mat has been saying that if riders speak their mind they'll get nailed for it.  Look at what happend last year with his bikes.

No, the US government never said that Saddam Hussein was behind 9/11; and sorry if it seems like I said NO ONE was saying this; as I didn't mean within the media....the media says all sorts of things all on their own; and often untrue.
