AMA announces vintage dirt-track series

Old irons take to the dirt once more in vintage championship

A VINTAGE National Dirt-Track Championship has been announced by the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) for 2010.

The series will feature 10 rounds with 14 classes using machinery from the bygone era.

“Much of AMA history was written on oval dirt tracks across America, from the original factory Class-A racing in the 1920s to the Class-C production-based structure that emerged later,” says Joe Bromley, AMA director of racing. “The AMA was there from the beginning, and this organisation is in a unique position to lay claim to the history of this sport and give it the recognition it deserves on the national stage.”

Mmm. Wonder if John Kocinski will be taking part?

2010 AMA Vintage National Dirt Track Championships Series Schedule:

    * Feb. 28 - Short Track - Daytona Beach, Fla.
    * March 2 - Half-mile - Volusia, Fla.
    * April 17 - Short Track - Orangeburg, S.C.
    * April 18 - TT - Orangeburg, SC.
    * June 26 - Short Track - Harpursville, N.Y.
    * July 9 - Half-mile - Ashland, Ohio
    * July 24 - Mile - Du Quoin, Ill.
    * July 25 - Half-mile - Du Quoin, Ill.
    * Sept. 11 - Half-mile - Waco, Texas
    * Sept. 12 - Half-mile - Waco, Texas

Thanks for the heads up... Vintage flat track is GREAT!! I've been going for years.... AHRMA has been running vintage racing of all genre's for ages...

Oh yeah... that's right... in their infinite wisdom... the AMA told AHRMA to piss off last year as far as them sanctioning under the AMA umbrella... worked out well too... I heard you could throw rocks through the paddock at the AMA Vintage days and not hit a soul...

Good luck AMA... I hope you don't do for Vintage Racing what you've done for pro racing in the US...
