Yamaha's worldwide sales on the up

94,000 units sold in Europe alone in 2007

Yamaha's net profit in its third financial quarter to 30 Septemberclimbed by 16.2 per cent year-on-year to £75.6m on the back ofhealthy motorcycle sales in Asia and Europe " and despite a declinein the US. Total sales revenue for the period was up 11.8 per cent to£1.71bn.

Unit sales grew 12 per cent to 1.26 million bikes, with Europeanvolume (including the UK) climbing by 15 per cent to 94,000 units.But the 'sub-prime' consumer credit turmoil in the US hammered themarket there, with sales down 21 per cent to only 31,000 bikes.

For the first nine months of 2007, net profit was up 13 per cent to£286m. But for its full financial year, Yamaha is forecasting aprofit improvement of only 2.9 per cent to £336m.
