Yamaha YZF-R125 - latest launch pics

Coming to a big hill near you soon

Posted: 10 September 2007
by Tim Skilton

And we all made do with an FS1E...

OK KIDS, it's time to smash your piggy banks, as Yamaha have just unveiled pictures of their new, and rather tasty, YZF-R125.

The bike uses an all-new liquid-cooled, four-valve, single cylinder engine, which Yamaha claim is most powerful 125cc four-stroke motorcycle available. That means about 14bhp in restricted form to you and me.

The bike takes strong styling cues from the company's flagship YZF-R1 with a Deltabox beam frame, aluminium swingarm, 33mm diameter forks and Brembo brake set up.

Sources say the bike's top speed, in restricted form, is rumoured to be in excess of 71mph.

Rev counter, like owner's bank balance, will mostly be in the red

Colours are blue/black, red/white, grey/black or yellow/black. Estimated price is nudging £4000.

Isn't that about a grand more than the CBR125? For a bike that's meant to be sold to kids?

They'll sell by the crate-load then

Rich kids will love them

To be honest, they're a nice looking bit of kit...

Price needs to be under £3000, wont sell many at £4000 when both the rs125 & mito are cheaper.

I thought the idea was to get kids back into motorcycling not a knackered Saxo! Dont these people realise kids have bugger all money. You can get a brand new SV650 for that price.

Isnt this like £2k more than the Honda?

The price is way over the top and should be something like £2695 otr. £4000 for a 17 year old trainee shelf stacker is a lot of money on finance and with a restricted top speed of 71mph, I would rather have a 1.2 corsa that tops out at about 100mph for £500.

In excess of 71 MPH eh?
Is that like saying that head down, arse up it will do 72, downhill with a tailwind?

And the price?

Nice way to encourage young spods to buy a car.

Im 16 year old and i want a 125 when im 17 or 18. I got a gilera runner scooter at the moment but thats because i wanted experience riding and on the road. I really like this bike but i think its a bit much for me workin on a till to buy. The bike company to bring out a stylish 125 for a cheap price would be raking in the profits from people my age

im 16 years old and bought a brand new Yamaha Aerox-R at the start of jan 07, i really want a new 125cc and can afford one, im very keen on the XT-X, XT-R and can afford it
but i love this new bike is f*ckin amazing but £4000 how the f*ck am i supposed to pay that, they should price it around £3000, maybe around £2900, £4000 takes the piss

I must admit me and my friend fell in love with this bike as soon as we saw pics in a bike mag (both huge fans of R1 looks), but the price you are estimating... Jeez... I blew 1500 on a second hand Honda NSR125 wich still took forever to earn. I agree with everyone when they say 2700-3000 OTR max.

Spoke to a bloke at the bike show who works for Yamaha, he told me the price will be somewhere between £2500 - £3000 on the road

my mate is in the process of buyin a R6 and since i have just had my bike stolen, im lookin 4 a 125 and this one is it. but i cant afford £4000 on my £800 a month wage. i have bills and tax too which is what i dnt think Yamaha have realised. The Gilera RCR i just had nicked was just for the commute but it was a piss take at 45 mph on the North Circular! if any one finds a decent priced R125 then tex me or somethin please coz im at my wits end! thanks from lad in need.

Riduculous Price... Beautiful Bike! I have seen it in real life and its very big for a 125, stood next to a R1 I very nearly missed it, up close you can tell its a 125 but not from a far!

I just can't believe the price, I don't fancy paying £2999 for a bike that lets be honest might not even be that reliable. Apart from all that I think its really nice but I would rather pass my test and go for a Ninja 250...

YZF R125 - very nice looks, no idea how it handles

CBR 125 - looks small and crappy, not much poke either

RS 125 - looks amazing, handles and stops and tops the ton when derestricted

personally i'd go for the aprilia or look into cagiva or sachs as they both do sporty looking 125s.
