JAMES TOSELAND leads the WSB championship by 16 points after the second round at Phillip Island. The championship takes a break through March, meaning Toseland will start the UK round at Donington Park as the leader infront of his home crowd.
Toseland saw off Troy Corser in both races on a track Corser knows like the back of his hand. In race one, Troy Bayliss was unstoppable but Toseland capitalised in race two, seeing off reigning world champion Troy Bayliss and former world champion Troy Corser.
Max Biaggi, was sharing the lead of the championship with Toseland after the first round but a third and fourth finish on his Alstare Corona Suzuki saw him nudged off the top spot. He now holds second place in the table with 74 points to Toseland's 90. Bayliss is in third place on the Xerox Ducati, 26 points behind Toseland, and the Yamaha riders, Noriyuki Haga and Corser, are fourth and fifth.
Five riders were in contention for the lead in the early stages of the second race but only Toseland and Bayliss could maintain the pace and the young Brit won by 0.274 seconds.
Champ Bayliss commented on Toseland's race two performance: "When James put the hammer down we cleared off," Bayliss said. "On the last three laps we were on the limit. I threw everything at him but he still beat me."
