THE WELSH Assembly Transport Minister has been questioned over the number of road accidents involving motorcyclists in Mid & West Wales.

Nick Bourne, leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly for Wales, quizzed the Minister over what plans he has in place to reduce the danger of speeding motorcyclists in the region.

"Concerns have been raised with me, particularly with reference to the A40 in Powys and the A48 in Carmarthenshire," said Mr Bourne.

"Some motorcyclists have been known to travel at speeds well in excess of the speed limit endangering themselves and other road users, as well as causing noise pollution. However the great majority ride safely but are often vulnerable to accidents.

In response, the Transport Minister, Ieuan Wyn Jones, said: “Measures to improve motorcyclist safety involve a combination of engineering, enforcement, education and training. We are working closely with the Police through the BikeSafe initiative, the local authorities and ROSPA to improve road safety for motorcyclists.

"Additionally, speed limits are being reviewed in accordance with guidance published in October 2009.”

Hmm the witch hunt begins again .  One think i cant help but think, is given the amount of accidents that happen daily how many are bikers . Ok even fatal accident .

The other thing is given the advancements in Engineering  to  road going vehicles through braking and performance , we seem to be going back to the days with a man with a red flag . For those that dont know , this was what you had to do when owning a motor vehicle you also had to have someone walk in front with a red flag . Mad , yes but thats the way we are heading .
