Waldmann linked to MZ factory buyout

Former GP 250cc ace takes serious interest in MZ name

LOTS OF rumours flying around at the moment in Germany that the shut-down MZ factory and racing concern is to be bought by none other that two former GP greats - Ralf Waldmann and Martin Wimmer.

Apparently, the pair have expressed an interest in the business that was closed down a couple of years ago and are due to take a tour of the former works with representatives from the country's Ministry of Economic Affairs.

Both Waldmann and Wimmer were high-profile stars in Germany during their careers, which saw many wins in the 250GP class. Waldmann was also a regularly bashed elbows with former 250cc World Champion Max Biaggi.

It's got to be a given that if they get the MZ name then they'll come back to racing, hasn't it? We're hearing a GP2 team is on the cards.

Interesting.

Interesting story. There was me thinking the GP2 class would just be a load of CBR600s in drag.

I have an affinity with MZ, I rode an ETZ around Europe many years back, and thought it a geat shame when the factory doors closed. It's a company with a great history, and shouldn't be left to rot.

Agree Alan.I always thought they filled the "work horse" gap in the market, both my mate and my dad rode them for many years,as a commuter.Good morning BTW.

People shouldn't forget the work MZ and Walter Kaaden did to bring two-strokes to the fore on road, and especially on track. Suzuki in particular owe them a giant debt of gratitude.

as in "they probably stole MZ ideas when Ernst Degner defected to them".

Ride Safe,

PS
I'm glad about the news, but I doubt it will do much for the resale value of my MZ 1000 S

They did exactly that. The year after Degner defected with all the blueprints, MZ borrowed tools from the Suzuki mechanics that were bike-specific, but fitted the MZ motor. Suzuki simply copied Kaaden's designs to the letter.
