IS THE the first step towards a VW motorcycle?
Reports in the Financial Times Germany yesterday said that there has been talks between Suzuki and VW. The paper claimed that it had been told about the meetings by a high-ranking Suzuki manager and that the deal could mean VW coming into the Japanese bike builder's interests by as much as 20 percent.
What the deal is likely to mean is that Suzuki gets access to the VW technologies and future technologies while VW gets an immediate foothold in the lucrative Indian and Southeast Asian markets.
But it seems likely that this not a deal about cars but very much about motorcycle production. The FTG says that VW are interested in starting off the venture onto two wheels by building small capacity bikes the likes of which sell in huge numbers in China and India.
