VIDEO: Buell ceases motorcycle production

Erik Buell gives an emotional video statement about his company's demise

IN AN EMOTIONAL short video, company founder Erik Buell has announced that Buell Motorcycles is to cease motorbike production with immediate effect.

The Harley-Davidson-owned company has produced motorcycles for the last 26 years. It's unclear as to the exact reasons why the company has ceased production; flagging sales in an already depressed motorcycle market is rumoured to be behind the decision.

In the video presentation Buell explains that the American giant will honour all Buell manufacturer warranties.

Christ on a bike!

Not exactly surprising what with HD jumping into bed with MV. My money goes on Erik the nutter setting up on his own, maybe he should call Indian, they're just starting out again and will no doubt have V-twin engines that he can use. Sad video though, felt sorry for the mentalist.

What a terrible decision from a company that now produces only rolling anachronisms (excepting the v-rod lineup). A bunch of accountants decide that more profit can be made by continuing to milk the baby-boomers for overpriced chrome accessories than actually prodicing a bike that handles. What happens when all the middle-aged people are to old to ride their hogs? Now H-D has no way of getting most young people into their showrooms.

This is terrible for AMA Pro Road Racing as they have alienated the big-four in order to court Buell. Now what? I can't imagine that Buell will still race next year, so Danny Eslick is out of a ride, and one more manufacturer leaves the AMA series, like fleas on a dying dog.

Overall, just a BFD. They should have at least sold Buell, not just discontinued them. I'll bet Victory would be interested. Coup de tat, anyone?

That's really sad, I thought Buell one of the more intresting motorised bicycle makers.

This is bad news... Buell were gaining massive credibility for superb innovative bikes... I hope he finds a way to carry on. Buells are brilliant and his market remains.
