UK's worst motorcycle theft regions revealed

Where does your area rank?

MOTORCYCLE insurer, Carole Nash have revealed the reults of their annual survey into motorcycle theft, putting London as the riskiest area.

Carole Nash have over 300,000 bikes on their books andcompile the data by analysing the number of thefts against the number of policy-holders in that postcode.

The chart above shows that London is the worst area and that the North East has improved by six places over last year. Only one area outside Greater London featured in the UK’s top ten hotspots; Huddersfield. Bikers in Edinburgh returned to suffering the highest risk in Scotland, replacing Aberdeen. For the previous three years Aberdeen had endured Scotland’s highest theft rate. In Wales, Cardiff bikers again endured Wales’s highest rate of theft. They were also the only Welsh bikers recording thefts above the UK average. If you live in Hemel Hempstead, well you had the UK’s average theft rate.

The table below shows all the results by postcode, with the following number showing last year's position and the final number showing the change on last year.

Hi,
The biggest problem with these figures is it's use of postcodes.
Where I live there are a large number of roads which have 2 postcodes.
You can have an Oldham postcode (position 77) or a Manchester postcode (position 17), in the same street.
No-one can convince me that one is 4 times more likely to have a bike stolen than the other.

I think it makes a difference if your postcode covers a city (more crime), mine does but I live 20 mile away.

The rankings don't mean anything without theft figures... a region could have a worse ranking than last year but less motorcycle theft because the ranking is based on the theft rates in all the other districts. Potentially misleading statistics.

Anglia is listed as 3rd poorest, yet Norfolk & Suffolk are listed as = 81st ! Presume they have added in areas such as Cambs, Essex, etc which historically have never been part of 'Anglia'. I blame the BBC and their invented t.v. regions which seem to have been adopted by all and sundry...
