A SPEED CAMERA on the M11 in Essex has raked in over £2.3 million in the last five years, it has been revealed.

The camera, which is situated near Woodford, in a 50mph zone, has flashed 38,243 motorists over the past five years, netting almost £2.3 million.

The information has come to light after the government were ordered to publish the statistics under the Freedom of Information act.

iMarcus has hit the nail on the head - how many lives has this £2.3m saved?

How many crashes were on this stretch of road before the camera arrived, and how many have there been since the camera was installed?

Skelter

As someone who used to use this stretch of road regularily, I don't think the road is that bad, its basically a section of motorway with a speed limit, that's what catches people out and generates the cash!!

What you have to watch out for are the people hitting their brakes to slow down for it....

Swindon got rid of its speed cameras recently after admitting they were just a revenue generating device. Accidents actually fell. Maybe motorists were free to look where they were going rather than concentrating on keeping the needle on 30.

Did the road safety figures for the road this camera is on pre and post camera era get released? If the camera reduced accidents then thats the only justification for it, otherwise, remove it as it has no valid reason for being there.

Stretched
Why does everyone get upset for people that are speeding being caught?  It is not like the speed limit is not posted as well as speed cameras being marked.  I do think money raised should be used to improve the roads.

George's Shed

Stealth tax, if every camera was outside the local school, shops, doctors, or black spot etc. no one would complain because you would feel guilty, but instead it is blatantly obvious that the majority are positioned to catch you out and make money.

Time to attack the signs it invalidates the limits.
