Triumph Street Triple 675 - official launch images

Bizarrely, Triumph unveil new Street Triple in Austria

Posted: 4 July 2007
by Visordown News

Breaking news: Press release direct from Triumph

The countdown is over! The much awaited Triumph Street Triple was officially

unveiled to over 5,000 Triumph owners on at the Triumph Tridays in Neukirchen, Austria.

The Street Triple offers 675cc of pure, naked aggression, combining the streetfighter styling of its older brother, the Speed Triple, with the 675cc engine, chassis and performance of the award-winning Daytona 675. Genetically engineered by Triumph, the Street Triple is set to become the most desirable naked middleweight motorcycle in the market.

Packing a powerful punch, 108PS to be exact, and 69Nm of effortless torque, the

Street Triple is set to see off any naked middleweight competitor with ease, and

quite a few of the heavyweights too. The proven 675 engine delivers strong low and midrange performance, from tickover to the redline, while the distinctive three cylinder feel, and unmistakable sound, offer an electrifying and emotive ride.

Bike thieves are getting craftier these days

The Street Triple's aluminium frame and swingarm come directly from the Daytona 675, while the Nissin two pot sliding calipers with sintered pads (the same material as used on the Daytona 675) give braking power that is top of its class. The lightweight five-spoked wheels also come straight from the Daytona 675, with Dunlop Sportmax Qualifier tyres fitted as standard (120/70 ZR17 front and 180/55 ZR17 rear). Approved options are the Pirelli SuperCorsa Pro and the Bridgestone BT014 G. Lean and agile, the Street Triple is equipped with Kayaba suspension front and rear, with rear preload adjustment, giving class leading handling.

The low dual seat and new footrests and handlebars provide a comfortable riding

position for rider and pillion without jeopardising the aggressive streetfighter styling of the bike. The headlights echo the distinctive units used on the Speed Triple, while the comprehensive instrument console shares the same functionality as that on the Daytona 675 but is restyled to fit neatly within the lines of the Street Triple.

Triumph's Commercial Director, Tue Mantoni, commented, 'The Street Triple is one of the most important models we've ever brought to market, giving Triumph a strong presence in this important segment and offering a new entry point to Triumph's range of sports bikes. It's a great bike for both new and experienced riders, with distinctive style and class leading performance in an affordable package. Reaction from customers to the Street Triple has been fantastic and our dealers are very much looking forward to receiving their demo bikes shortly.'

Priced at £5349 otr, the Street Triple will be available in dealers from August.

More details on the Street Triple can be found at the dedicated website "

Accessories

As with all Triumph bikes, the Street Triple Accessory range was designed and

developed alongside the motorcycle itself and offers a range of options for tuning

performance, enhancing the practicality of the bike or creating a dramatic new style.

Accessories include a neat, aerodynamic fly screen for wind deflection, an easy-to-fit colour-matched seat cowl for a sleek tail end finish and a sharp belly pan, which protects the engine whilst complementing the naked style.

Following on from the success of the accessory exhaust system for the Speed Triple, Triumph has again collaborated with Arrow Special Parts to develop a 3-into-1 'Low Boy' exhaust system for the Street Triple. Offered for Closed Circuit Competition use only, the system is manufactured from stainless steel with a carbon fibre end cap and provide s performance gains throughout the torque curve coupled with a weightsaving of 8kg compared to the standard silencers. Rear bodywork finishers are also offered to provide a clean finish for the underside of the rear end when fitted with the 'Low Boy' style silencer. A pair of EC homologated Arrow slip-on silencers will follow in early 2008.

Continuing the performance theme, a number of high spec carbon fibre parts are

available for the Street Triple, including tank pad, upper & lower chain guard and

front mudguard.

On the practical side two styles of magnetic tank bags are available. These bags can be securely fitted or removed in seconds and feature Scotchlite reflective panels for improved visibility, clear map pockets, integrated waterproof rain covers and large zips pull tabs for easy use when wearing gloves. Other essentials include a gel seat for additional comfort, which features double stitch detail and a premium finish, rear hugger for protecting the underside of the bike, a grab rail for the pillion passenger and a smoked flyscreen visor for added wind protection while giving the Street Triple a more aggressive appearance.

Since when has sliding 2-pots and rear preload only adjustable suspension been class leading?

Stop following the latest "fashion" for radial brakes and in making a motorcycle suspension set-up so over complicated. Trust in the people who designed and made the decisions. Of course cost will have been an issue but i can tell you first hand after riding one back to back with the two existing class leaders, a new hornet and z750 the standard suspension set-up was near on perfect for me, the brakes were fab with a strong progressive action and more feel than the rest as well. The street triple looks better, goes better, sounds much better, stops better and made me walk away with a grin so large that i put down my deposit there and then. I am expecting delivery in November.
