The biker-friendly petrol pump

Non-slip floor, helmet stand, visor cleaning facilities - it's about time we were taken seriously

The French have the right idea for biker-friendly pumps

IT SEEMS the French have the right idea when it comes to biker-friendly petrol stations. Industry giant, Total, have unveiled a series of new-style pumps specifically designed for bikers.

The pumps have a special non slip floor, a modified nozzle for small tank apertures, washing facilities for visors and even a helmet stand. But if you can't be bothered to remove your lid then there's card payment facilities at the pump.

We love the idea. So come on you petrol fat-cats - let's have them installed over here.

Sounds good to me, though in some places we already have the card payment facilities which are nothing short of fantastic! The more of them we see about the better!

Mike.

What's wrong with a slippery floor, taking off your lid and gloves and washing your visor in the bog out the back with a damp, blue hand-towel (whilst standing on a wee-covered floor)

England - we love it.

Last time i tried the pay at pump it wasn't working properly.

The woman kept shouting over the tannoy but i didn't realise she was talking to me as i had the earplugs in

The lazy arse should've done her job properly and put a sign on it.

If we get pumps like this will the Shell drivers have to get paid more for the complication and extra stress? .

We just got these pay at pump facilities in the station I work in and it's shocking the stupidity of some people.  Just standing there like a total gonk staring at the pump without a bloody clue!  I had to come out and tell the eejits what to do as they paid sod all attention to the tannoy.  If one more of these giffers had said that it wasn't working or that they didn't see the large print instructions written all over the bleedin place I'd have stabbed them right in the neck!

Wish we hadn't bothered...

"So come on you petrol fat-cats - let's have them installed over here."

The annoying thing is I think they are made over here by a company called Tokheim based in Dundee.

Rock-ard Biker
My Local Tesco has pay at the pump machines, they are incredibly unreliable only about 1 time in 6 visits do they actually work correctly, you can re visit weeks later and find the same machine not working and no label on it. When you tell the staff, they say they know and are frustrated that Tesco never do anything about it. They recently built a replacement petrol station with new pumps as the old site was being redeveloped, then they moved over the same pay at pump machines that everyone had been complaining about. I like Tesco I do.

I didn't realise that existing petol pumps were biker unfriendly? We've really had it if inanimate objets discriminate against us.

special non slip floor -  Do bikers fall over more than regular motorists.

modified nozzle for small tank apertures - Is this for mini motos? My bike has a regular sized hole in the tank?

washing facilities for visors - Windscreen cleaner and paper towel?

and even a helmet stand - Just put it on the pump?

But if you can't be bothered to remove your lid then there's card payment facilities at the pump -  Wow!!!! just for us.

Total bollocks non-story.!!!!

It pisses me off that we aren't able to wash off the windscreen because there is no water at the pumps.

There used to be water and sponges until all the cages got electric washers.

Why can't they put a bucket and sponge back? Gits

Complain to BMW, maybe they will supply windscreen washers next time.

Actually I find there is nearly always water, but it does piss me off hunting for the paper towels, the dispensers always seem to be empty.

Oh and that bloody stupid reduced size filler hole they added to cars when unleaded came about, Its about time we did away with that.  I can't remember the last time i saw a leaded pump.  A few times I've not hit the target properly and have managed to cover the bike with unleaded.

The 3 Tescos near to me have pay at your pump except it hasn't worked in any of them for the last 3 years!

They also have notices on the door that you have to remove your helmet as you go in and pay, doesn't say anything about hats or hoodies though!

The air pumps always seem to be out of order but the water works!

Dunno about anywhere else, but the Tesco's near my office in Hounslow has just had brand spanking new pay at pump machines fitted!

Well, Visordown. Take the initiative and send this article and comments to all of the distributors and supermarkets in the UK. As a biker and motorist I hate getting fuel for many reasons but mostly because of ignorance and selfishness of other users. A seperate filling area for bikers would be excellent.

It would be hard to find anything more pointless really.  IMO

Biker friendly pumps, would these be the same price as other pumps, naargh. The f****** greedy petrol companies would want to slap another ten pence on a litre to cover the cost of a sponge, water and paper towels, although on subject of paper towels i have seen folk take handfuls of these, but i don,t know how many towels this is it all depends on the size of the hand,I will look into this further and come back with exact numbers. Watch this space.

I eat squirrels

What's the biggy? The nozzle has always fitted, I've never fallen over or been asked to take my helmet off! (filling up twice a week for 4 years). If I wanna clean my visor I give it a wipe when I leave work or before I leave in the morning, but I generally can put up with a few flies or a bit of grit..

why ask for special treatment?
