Record books re-written in QatarThe opening MotoGP race of the year in Qatar was significant in many ways in terms of records and milestones:
Casey Stoner's debut MotoGP victory made him the youngest ever Australian rider to win in the premier-class, taking the record from Darryl Beattie.
Stoner also becomes the first Australian rider to win in all three current GP classes.
This was the first win at the Losail circuit for both Ducati and Bridgestone tyres.
Ducati have now won three of the last four MotoGP races with three different riders.
Ducati won the last of the 990cc races and the first of the 800cc races.
Casey Stoner leads the World Championship classification for the first time and is the first Australian to top the championship since Garry McCoy did so after the opening two races of the 2000 season.
The first four riders across the line were riding bikes from four different manufacturers.
