Spy Shots - Ducati Enduro Monster

1098-powered Ducati enduro monster spied by Italian paps!

Ducati aims to capture R1200GS sales with the new Enduro

COMPLETE WITH piggy-back rear shock, funky-looking bodywork and upright front end, this is claimed to be the world's first picture of the all-new, 1098-powered Ducati Enduro Monster.

Very little is known about the bike other than it is using the company's 1098 engine, but according to foreign spotters the front of the bike is very similar to the Moto Morini Granpasso. Check out the swingarm and cool dirt deflector wrapping itself around the back tyre.

We like. We like a lot.

I'm kind of hoping their reporting is a bit wrong.  There has been talk for some time about a replacement for the Multi.  I'd swop mine for a 848 version with TC and ABS please.  Better that than Ducati going down the overpriced Streetfighter route again.  I know Ducati is trying to be exclusive like Ferrari, but most of us Desmo kids don't have Ferrari dosh! Anyway who need's a 170 mph GS type bike?

it'll probably self destruct in 60 secs anyway

Hey IIIrd

What bike do you ride? Clearly it is not a modern Ducati as mine(848) has already lasted 33696000 secs (and counting!) without incident....Unless it fell off the stand while you read this.

The 'Gran Passo' is a great bike and this will have to go some to better that - Recent Ducati build quality and that badge will tip the balance.

Bring it on!(even if I won't be able to afford one).

Multistradas (1000, 620 & 1100) are great bikes as anyone who has ridden one will tell you.   Sadly most people didn't get that far - put off by the looks or the outdated unreliability rep.

If they get it right, the Aperta or Enduro (or whatever they decide to call it) could be a fantastic success.  IMHO getting it right means a tall, sporty Fazer not a GS-chaser with feeble off-road pretensions.

I'll be watching developments with interest - hopefully from the seat of a KTM 990SMT!

i've been looking at multistrada's recently. i like the look of them. industrial, good prices too.

i ride a yamaha bt1100 by the way and it has no issues. italian designed, and built in europe...

but a ducati multistrada may fit the bill for a replacement. it's not shaft drive so i may not go there.

the moto guzzi griso on t'other hand is...

I reckon the Bt1100 is an interesting bike and shows that you 'think outside the box' when it comes to choosing a bike.

I used to own a Griso, really enjoyed it and again; had no reliability issues.
Bought mine used and they are good value too.

Guess if you make shaft drive a main criteria you will tend towards BMW/Guzzi.

Given what we are discussing here an Moto Guzzi 'Stelvio' might be an option to the usual GS?

Mind you: well-maintained chains do last a lot longer these days....

All the best.

And for being presumptuous about VD riders' preferences, you owe us all a drink. I'll have a large vodka.

Oh, and V-fun, my bruv's 1098s won't hold a charge for more than 3 days, his mate's won't hold a sump plug for a similar amount of time, and the sidestand keeps falling off my neighbour's Monster.

I'd love a Ducati, but this kind of shit just doesn't happen to jap bikes.

They're shite them 1098's and built by a guy called 'Carlo' in his lunch break.

Now the 848...It's built by 'Mario' bright and early in the morning.

Seriously: I can't argue with your logic and all I can say is that I don't know of any duff ones myself , given that I have been working at a major dealership.

If I'm honest: my 848 gets some condensation in the instrument panel and has a recall to fit a heat shield to the battery mounting.

As to the Monster - I have owned two of them and yes they did have problems: but they are older generation models.

Be fair though: some Jap bikes DO have problems!! That's a TL1000S in the photo...

Cheers Matey!

Yep, one that's been all over Europe, was trackday'd by the previous owner, and lived outside for a year. But it remains resolutely mint, starts first time every time, and spanks it's rival 996 (albeit in this case with an Ohlins shock). All for less than half the price of the rival italian.

I say make both bikes, but don't just build the Enduro/whatever at the expense of the Streetfighter! I do not "need" to have a 170 mph bike but it is nice knowing the bike will do it. Hell, I'll settle for 130, 140 mph. I'd also buy a Jap bike or American if they made a decent streetfighter (and not a poser). The Brits already have their Streetfighter Icons by way of the speed and street triple. Gotta be the best bang for the dollar or should I say euro.

i've noticed the aprilia capnord as well...this i like the look of. the guzzi stelvio, yup i like this. and you're right chains are better these days....still mesy though.

the bt1100 is an interesting beast at that. loads of torque, and low down where you need it. and the sound is amazing (i have a fuel exhaust no baffles). not fast, but fast enough. you wont get your knee down with this bike, but then again, thats not what its for.

so many nice, intersting bikes to choose from, all with different characters...i'd have them all if i could.

Amen to that! IIIrd

Alan as to your TL1000S it's a credit to you and when you start talking value for money and take into account the running costs of pre 2007 Ducati's. No contest.

Despite championing Italian bikes: I'm a lover of most V-Twins and the TLS has bags of character and the motor found it's ay into everything from Cagiva's to a mega-bucks BiMOTA
(SB8RR?).
Let's celebrate what we have in common and not be blinded by the cost of a bike or the badge on the tank eh?

Don't flick the V.....Ride one!
