Local authorities ease on speed camera initiatives following decision to stop them pocketing the revenue
Figures shown in The Times newspaper report that in 2007 around 1.26 million fixed penalties were issued - a drop of 23 per cent on the previous year. Up until April 2007, Police and local authorities were allowed to pocket the revenue made from speeding motorists; they must now operate their road policing on a fixed budget.
The news suggests authorities are now ploughing less time and revenue into speed camera operation.
