Schumacher scores debut podium on Honda Fireblade

Ex-F1 God puts in stunning performance in first-ever superbike race

Posted: 21 March 2008
by Visordown News

SQUARE-jawed F1 uber-God Michael Schumacher bagged his first podium finish in a motorcycle race yesterday when he raced a Honda Fireblade to third place in the SKOOX Cup at the Pannoniaring circuit in Hungary.

Clocking a fastest-race lap time of 2m 1. 309 (2m flat in qualifying), Schumacher was third behind winner Martin Bauer and Andreas Meklau in the superstock-rules championship.

Schumacher was riding a bike usually campaigned by IDM champion Martin Farmer in the German championship, but according to race watchers was aggressive on track right from the start – earning him the incredible podium finish in a fraught race.

Team boss Mike Wohner said that it was impossible to talk to Schumacher immediately before the race, because he was so nervous, he said: “I noticed that Schumi was extremely focused before the race. His tactics were pretty simple, he was going to ride the race completely on full attack. He also admitted to me that his nervousness level was high."

such a shame that Pannoniaring is in HUNGARY not even in Austria and mainly not in Germany

Pannonia is an ancient latin word and a part of general intelligence  ..

Top man...

Always liked him in F1

Spongeh

Just shows his talent.

The guy can really feel and understand the interaction of his vehicle with the tarmac and use that to go as fast as possible.

Oh and he must have massive cojones.

Check out stage3, he's a proper brainiac.

Personallity wise he was on a par with Steve Davis, but you gotta give him points for effort.

toosmooth11

I'm with jjones 100%

Saw him test Stoners bike at Valencia last November - boy did I want him to be shyte, or fall off, or both. He did neither he just got quicker and quicker and quicker.

Fair play to him for having a crack at racing a bike, although he's got a bit more to do to redeem himself from the "self-obsessed robotic boxhead" pigeonhole I've had him insince he nerfed Damon Hill out of the F1 World title in 94.

Bet he didn't drive a clapped out transit to the circuit himself with the blade banging around in the back though did he? - not a proper racer in my book til he does....

 LMAO

Well said there Toosmooth11! Never really liked the bugger in his F1 days, but got to hand it to him; he really can drive. As for riding... Well, that's another story altogether.

Still, kudos to him for taking to 2 wheels!
