BMW's S1000RR ... close to £13,000 in standard trim

BMW HAVE announced that their all-new superbike, the S1000RR will go on sale in the US at a cost of $13,500 which equates to around £8,500.

However, we won't be able to snap up an S1000RR at that price here in the UK, the S1000RR's anticipated UK price will be closer to £12,000 in standard trim.

BMW USA have also listed the prices for optional extras as follows:

    - Motorsports Paint Scheme: $750 (£460)
    - Race ABS: $1,000 (£610)
    - Race ABS & Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) $1,480 (£910)
    - Gear Shift Assistant: $450 (£275)
    - Anti Theft Alarm: $395 (£250)

So a fully-laden BMW S1000RR will all the optional extras will cost in the region of £10,500 in the USA, however we expect that to be closer to £14,000 here in the UK.

Last week we reported that BMW want to take the Japanese head on with their pricing but at the moment a standard S1000RR still looks like it'll be at least two-thousand pounds more expensive than a standard Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade.

Don't forget the UK price includes taxes, the US price does not so the price could nearly 10% higher depending on which state it's bought in. Realistically the bike will sell for 10 grand in the US.

This is not the only odd price discrepency I've seen between bikes. Ducatti's and Aprilia's are INCREDIBLY expensive here, while they're only a couple thousand quid more in the UK. Meanwhile Yamahas (and apparently BMWs) are way more expensive in the UK..

Thing is if nobody buys them then the greedy bastards will have to lower the price.

Let me see priced 1k less than an R1 somehow don't think so BMW just fed everyone BS. How this was going to be around the same price as a JAP Litre bike. All they have done is put the bike up with Italian exotic. 1198S Anyone?

Ditto on the US tax. US prices never quote tax. In Texas it is 8.25% ontop of the sales price. In addtion you have to pay to register the bike in the county you live. You also have to pay delivery and a host of other small things. There are so many extra things ontop. Don't be fooled by the cheap sticker price. I really miss dealing with UK dealers, it was so much simpler (and not really more expensive).

Having seen one at Brands BSB on a trade stand. I'm not convinced the design is worthy of such a premium. The rear spar to the tail is just painted 1" box section! Hardly Ducati money intricacy

All the bmw hype had me seriously interested, but the fully loaded price is really dissappointing, especially when we have well proven superbikes already.........That sort of money for me would be aprillia or ducati bound.....

Comparing the prices in the showrooms and the performance of the bikes in WSB I'm afraid that BMW have missed the opportunity to attract sportsbike riders. Unfortunately the Japanese bikes are still the best for performance per pound and the Italians are the best for style per pound. Sorry BMW, I really did want this bike to be close in price to a Fireblade to sway me towards your product but you have failed.
