NEWLY CROWNED MotoGP world champion Valentino Rossi has said he could have been a good Formula One driver

The flambuoyant Italian drove Ferrari's 2008 F1 car at the Mugello circuit earlier this week, after securing his eighth motorcycling world title.

Despite recently placing second in Monza rally, Rossi has denied any serious move to four wheels, saying he should have made the switch three or four years ago.

"With a lot of work I could have become a good F1 driver. It is hard to say if I would have become a winner or not, but the potential was there," he told reporters after a his high-speed F1 test.

Rossi clocked a fastest lap of 1:22.5 - two seconds behind recent Ferrari drivers Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen.
