Rock and Blues Custom Show cancellation confirmed

Organisers confirm cancellation after fears of retaliation over Hells Angel M40 murder

ORGANISERS OF The Rock and Blues Festival have agreed to scrap the event over fears it could become a battleground for rival biker gangs over the death of Hells Angel Gerard Tobin, who was shot dead while riding along the M40 last August.

The organisers, One Percent, released a statement last night stating the comapny's decision would prove to police that it wanted to co-operate.

It said: "For reasons completely unconnected with the organisers of the show, Derbyshire Constabulary have this year decided to object to the event at Catton Hall, citing possible public disorder. We have not received threats of any kind about this event, however we have a duty to customers, employees and the general public to take very seriously any representations made by the police based on intelligence which they have.

"It is hoped that the police will accept our decision to withdraw from this year's event as the strongest possible indication of our willingness to co-operate with them and that it will be possible in the future for other events to be organised." The festival was previously held at Pentrich but was switched to Catton Hall, in Walton-on-Trent, over flooding fears.

This is disgusting! I'm Furious! It seems the Bulldog will be going the same way!

I didnt know Gerry but had met him and i'm damn sure he wouldnt want things to be like this!

Where will it end? If the law have thier way there'll be no more bike rallies or even ride outs! There is more trouble in EVERY town centre in england in a single weekend than there ever is at a rally!

But the Police (and I mean the top brass, not the beat bobbies) can pretend to give a damn about the general public without it costing them a penny!

I wonder if the local council or the blue rinse mafia have been putting pressue on the local constabulary.

It was our first time at the Rock n' Blues last year and we had nothing but praise for the whole time we were there. Well organised in all departments and smiles from folks you didnt even know.

Recommended it to many folks and were all set for another rewarding weekend away from the usual daily grind, choosing rallies over pubs the last couple of years because the pubs are full of wannabe boxing legends or at worse wannabe gangsters.

Seems to me its the usual fashionable cave in. Someone said JUMP and everyone shouts how high?

If there are any repercussions to be had outside the farcical judicional system we have, have them by all means. (Like they couldnt have already been sorted long ago?)

All I ask is...

IF NEEDS MUST, BE MEN AND GET TOE TO TOE...SHOW YOUR BALLS AND GET SNOT BLOOD AND SPIT ON EACH OTHER...

BUT F-FSAKE LET ME ENJOY ME WELL EARNED BEER, THE BANTER AND THE GOOD TIMES, DO US ALL A FAVOUR AND KEEP IT OUT OF MY FACE EH?...

Getting a bit techy now so just to finish off, a comment I made whilst enjoying the wonderfull atmoshphere amongst the crowd in front of the main stage...

"where else can you get such a gathering of people and have no aggro?"

I went to the RBCS last year, and it was the most pleasant, friendly, good atmosphere open air event I have ever been to. Whoever decided to put pressure on the organisers over this should be ashamed of themselves.

Looks like Warwickshire police are objecting to the Bulldog Bash as well.

been going to rallies for year but last year was the first I`d been to the Rock n Blues.

It was superb & the atmosphere was cracking. Can`t believe its been pulled

Where`s it going to end ? as has been said I can see the Bulldog going the same way which is a shame as I`ve been there loads of times.

Totally agree with all the above comments, I don't do many rallies but the ones Ive been to have always been the most friendly places you can find.

"Assistant Chief Constable Peter Goodman said: "Given the potential risks, we do not believe that the event organisers can adequately manage or police the event so as to ensure public safety either."

Some people might wish to stay away this year, others wont give it a second thought. It's our money, our lives, it should be our decision.

BULLDOG BASH GETS GO-AHEAD

THIS year’s Bulldog Bash motorcycle festival was given the go-ahead by Stratford District Council on Thursday after a two-day licensing hearing.

Warwickshire Police had _object_ed to the application over concerns for public safety, with the shooting of Hells Angel Gerry Tobin on the M40 after the 2007 event, held at Long Marston airfield, prompting fears of a revenge attack toward rival gang, the Outlaws.

Several similar events have already been cancelled, including the Rock and Blues Custom Show, in Derbyshire, which is considered to be the equivalent event to the Outlaws as the Bulldog Bash is to the Hells Angels.

However, Michael Bromley-Martin QC, counsel for the organisers, argued that the killing of Mr Tobin took place 18 miles from the site of the Bash and the licensing committee should consider only security concerns relating the site itself.

In announcing their decision, councillors said that they were satisfied with the proposed security arrangements for the event.

I'm obviously glad the Bulldog wasnt cancelled...but now i'm really p**sed off! The RnB should go ahead!

God i've got a bee in my bonnet about this! And then for them to stop somethin like the welsh show! This is goin way too far!

I know for a fact hundreds of thousands of letters of support were sent re. The bulldog...maybe we should of done the same for the RnB!

My understanding is that now a new licence application for the rock & blues will be submitted.

Personally I think the best thing to help diffuse the current situation would be to leave it for this year but it ain't up to me............

Posted: 15/05/2008 22:40

I hear wot ya sayin but how can we do wivout the RnB...even for one year!

Dunno if its back on just yet...but its a move in the rite direction!

Nice one!

Posted: 17/05/2008 10:22

Maybe I'm just too simplistic, I just wanna have another good time.

Its gotta be one rule for both parties, one doo shouldnt go ahead without the other and vice versa.

AGREED Mr Laffo!

It's like watching Easy Rider on a larger scale: "We don't like your kaind round these parts y'hear'... Except it a whole police force saying it and the councils. People fear motorbikes because they don't understand them. Not understanding them creates a fear of them. The way they deal with that fear is to denounce and try to destroy them: The basic principle of racism. Pathetic.
