Road Rash returns?

Unrealistic riding and excessive violence, all in pixelated form

Baseball bats, shotguns, motorcycles... Ah the good old days. A screenshot from the new game.

OK, we don’t ‘do’ computer games on Visordown much. After all, when you ride bikes in real life, pixels don’t tend to offer much in the thrills department.

But for purely nostalgic reasons, this is worth a mention. If you’re in a certain thirty-something age group there’s a good chance console or computer games played a significant role in your formative life, and a couple of decades ago if you wanted to combine consoles and motorcycling the default option was Road Rash.

Horribly unrealistic, it somehow managed to be surprisingly addictive. And now, thanks to crowd-funding website Kickstarter, it could be making a return. More accurately, and to avoid litigation from the original franchise’s owners, the putative new game is a ‘tribute to’ Road Rash, and goes under the title ‘Road Redemption’.

Its creators are trying to raise $160,000, and already have $42,000 pledged after just a couple of days, so it’s looking likely to happen.

I dunno. They have to raise $160,000 first before they can write a game. C'mon.
