A MOTORCYCLIST has been killed and two others seriously injured following a four-vehicle collision at Daglingworth, near Cirencester.

Reports say three motorcycles were involved in a collision with a Volvo estate on Monday morning at around 9:30am.

One motorcyclist was declared dead at the scene, a second was airlifted to hospital suffering from multiple injuries, while a third was taken by ambulance to Gloucester Royal Hospital with a suspected serious pelvic injury.

Anyone who witnessed the collision should contact Gloucestershire Constabulary on 0845 090 1234 quoting incident 111 of May 4.

I have just had a call from a mate asking if I got home okay after a ride out yesterday. Evidently he had heard (he is a Funeral Director) that there was a fatal and a serious injury involving 3 bikes and a car on the 'nice' stretch of road that I had taken. I did see a sign asking for witnesses but didnt catch when the accident had happened.

I have been looking through the sites that I use for any info but can find nothing. There were 3 bikes and a car involved and all I know at the moment is that 2 of the bikes were Suzukis and the other a Honda, the stretch of road is on the A435 Cheltenham to Cirecester.

If any one knows any thing can they let me know please. I am guessing that I dont know the folks involved or I would have heard about it by know, but that dont stop me worrying and ofcourse my thoughts are with the riders involved and their families.

I live about a mile from that corner - one dead, one airlifted to Frenchay hospital and in serious condition and the other in Gloucester I think, the road was shut all day.  Apparently all 3 bikes hit the same car coming the other way, I think they were heading in the Cheltenham direction so probably misjudged the corner, it does tighten up a bit.  Don't know who they were but RIP .....

I just assumed that as 1 car and 3 bikes were involved that it was the car that had ran into the bikes, didnt think for one minute that all 3 bikes would make the same mistake.

Thanks for that FJSR

I just Google the road number and then filter by 'News'

There was one in Somerset on Sunday too.

Not sure how much it means but on the first link FJSR posted, you could clearly see two bikes on the left hand side of the road with the Volvo in the left hand ditch.  To me, it makes it look like the Volvo ended up on the wrong side of the road but then I'm hardly an accident investigator.

I hadn't seen that picture and you could well be right, I went round that corner this evening and it looks as though there are car skidmarks carrying straight on instead of going around the bend, which would match up with your post.  Quite why a car would skid at that point I don't know -  perhaps she panicked when she saw the lead bike, locked up and skidded across the road taking out the other two.  Academic, really I guess ...........

It's possible they could have been offsiding to get a better view, confused her and she moved to their side of the road trying to avoid them (with them doing the same to try to avoid her).

It's academic for the poor guy who died but I'm interested to know what happened so I can do my best not to end up the same way. At the moment, though, I'm just speculating.

Very sad indeed. Reminds me of a story from the 'Ring where a group of fast riders all hit the same coolant leak, with the lead rider dying, the following pack with various serious injuries. If you're riding in a pack, I guess if it goes wrong for the lead rider, you're in deep.

Only if you are riding too close and following a lead instead of riding your own ride.... easy mistake to make in all fairness and we have all done it from time to time.... doesnt help these poor guys though....
