Police clock father and son at 122mph

Biker faces jail after being nabbed at 122mph with son riding as pillion

Bennett was clocked at double the national speed limit

A MOTORCYCLIST could face a prison sentence after he was caught speeding at 122mph in the wet, with his 14-year-old son as a passenger.

Exeter Crown Court heard how Robert Bennett hit 122mph on his 1300cc Suzuki Hayabusa on the A361 North Devon Link road near South Molton when he was caught by a police camera, reports BBC News.

Bennett admitted dangerous driving and was bailed until March for sentencing. He was also banned from driving until he is sentenced next month. Bennett said:

"I hold my hands up - I was doing 122mph on that road and that was dangerous, especially with my lad on board."

David Sapiecha, defending, said Bennett had ridden the bike at that speed for about a quarter to half a mile on the 60mph dual carriageway.

Is it just us, or does anyone else feel like the net's closing in on speeding bikers?

What an absolute prat 122mph in the wet  with a bend ahead and a car coming the other way, ok the car is on the other side of the road there is still no room for error at that speed. We all take risks riding our bikes at high speed on the roads but don't endanger with your kids, wifes or friends. Lock him up for two weeks  a hefty fine and a two year ban. idiot!

Hang on, if he was doing 122, how come he didn't brake and barely leaned the bike to get round the bend?

Posted: 02/02/2009 at 19:46

InsanityNo.2
Yeah, it's a strange one, his positioning is totally wrong too, and theres no way he would make that bend at 122 mph in the wet, unless he had proper wet tyres on and that would be a push on that bike.

He's hardly mugged an old lady, he was just in a rush. He even holds his hands up and says fair cop.

Road Pirate

Wondered when this would hit VD.

Straight bit of road, a 'Busa, the blokes been on bikes for a million years, wound it on a bit. They probably zapped him just at or around his peak top speed before he eased off for the bend.

With his kid on the back and in the wet I doubt he accelerated like fuck, very easy to do.

In Road Pirate world this would not even be remarkable. Not kittens were harmed, no danger except in the minds of the petty desk riding pencil pushing bureaucraats that don't know the difference between real and imagined danger until some facist is putting a 9mm to their head and reducates them.

In the real world it's a crime to ride a bike or or drive a car unless you're stuck in a traffic jam not going anywhere burning fuel your paying 80% tax on. Your guilty until you prove your innocence. The camera never lies and every copper always tells the truth. Fuck the law and the inbred servants of the law too stupid to question authority and mindlessly follow the orders that has already lead to their enslavement.

And before someone says what he COULD have done... he COULD have crashed, his kid COULD have fallen off, he COULD have rampaged through a playground of kittens. No of it happened, so bring a sensible argument to the fucking table for once.

Yours,

Not The Daily Mail.

/No, I don't know the bloke concerned.

I suspect he's bright enough to know that showing that he appreciates it was wrong gives him a better chance in court.

If I ever got caught doing 120 mph I think I would appreciate it was dangerous.

Ilike2thinkso

I bet his lad was loving it. My boys go on the back of mine regularly and although I haven't and wouldn't do that sort of speed with them on there they would be beaming from ear to ear if I did.

He wasn't weaving in and out of traffic or pulling out to overtake at the last second. Chances are IF he was doing 122mph he was in a straight line and little traffic was about. IMO.

Yes he broke the law and 'pushed' the limit somewhat but as the pirate said some pencil pushing twonk with a hatred of all things biker has got upset and wants 'an example' made of this anti social demon!!!

I remember being 14 and my Dad had 150 on his blade with me on the back. I thought it was great!

If you were riding at 120MPH on that road it wouldn;t have seemed fast and you would have felt well in control

Like Loon said he hardly had his knee down going round that bend

Posted: 03/02/2009 at 11:05

All the gear no idea

I'm sure the guy on reflection realises that he shouldn't be going those speeds with his nipper on the back. How ever Heine site is a beautiful thing we have all done some thing and then said "shouldn't of really done that" but hey its his bike and his son.

I do think the media have jumped on this though massivley just to typically portray all bikers as irresponsible thugs with an insert of "some one think about the children!!" they can poke it give him whats due and then leave it why dramatise it and stick it every where does my head in. Its just negative media reporting that we can all do without.

plazydays

Here we go again. Okay, he did wrong and he is going to live with this. BUt why is he being treeated differently to car drivers. How car drivers do you know that have been caught speeding with children in the car and have never been treated differently in court so why is a biker.

Its about time someone stood up and told the world to get of our backs. Modern bikes are quick and the brakes have been upgraded to refelct that and are not like bikes of days gone by that required miles to stop.

This poor bloke must be going through the mill. Just the other month, i was sat in court and watch a woman driver get off with drink  driving saying it was the split of her marraige that drove her to do it????? Come on..........

The video is evidence in itself. No way could he have made that courner at that speed, even with teh best tyres on no waqy. Unles of course his brake lights were defective which i dowt it. The law is taking the piss out of motorcyclist time and time again and we let them do it. A decent rally would help but there aint enought people with a backbone to do it these days.

User 57298

In the papers today, is a story of as young lady who hit a parked car at 70mph, killing the occupant, after spending lots of time sending text messages, and chatting on her mobile phone whilst driving.  She denies actually texting at the point of impact - but she would, wouldn't she, if it couldn't be proven.

She was clearly not concentrating on her driving, and had delibarately taken part in activities known to detract greatly from your concentration on driving.  She wasn't looking where she was going - and didn't see the obstacle in front of her.

She got 21 months in jail.

I suspect the biker was concentrating very hard indeed, especially with his son on board.  He took a calculated risk in doing a short 7 second sprint on a "safe" straight.  A bit silly, but not the recklessness that will be claimed when he is sentenced.

It will be interested to see what sentence he gets.

Remember, the car driver actually killed someone, and got 21 months. Lets see what the poor biker gets who doesn't actually harm anyone at all.

David Sapiecha, defending, said Bennett had ridden the bike at that speed for about a quarter to half a mile on the 60mph dual carriageway.

The A361 is mainly three lane carriage way with double white seperating lines around that area and plenty of visability. Come on guys its easy to nip up to 130 in a few seconds from 60-70mph on that bike and that picture obviously isnt the point at which he was doing 122. I reckon it's just after they logged his top speed as he approached them and he's slowed as he's gone past.

Posted: 03/02/2009 at 21:14

plazydays

ANd your point is. He is still the victim of some spineless twat who has it in for bikers.

He was wrong but why treat him differently to a car driver doing the same speed in a car with kids.

Latest incident in court just two weeks ago was someone appeared with no license, no insurance, no mot and no tax. What happened?????????

Slap on the wrist, don't do it again and a £350 fine with court costs. Oh, and he can't hold a license for 2 years. COme on, what a joke. The bloke had been in court three times already for the same offence. Do you think he aint going to drive again. He saved himself thousands over the years and he walked. This poor bloke holds a license, mot and tax, insurance and has a job. He will be persicuted for a moment of madness.

Totatal bullshit!!!!!!

SENSIBLE ARGUMENT:Your an angry anti establishment shit stirrer and a traitor of all that is good and wholesome about modern society. The good citizens of the world must support compulsory speed control devices in all vehicles or at least micro chips that monitor speed of the vehicles 24/7 and issue demerit points and fines directly debited out of your bank account every time you are 2mph over the limit. The sooner all motorcycles are banned and cars are controlled through goverment auto drive net works(steering wheels unnessary) the safer it will be for everyone.

On the other hand the alternative of shooting every speed camera findable with a scoped high powered rifle has some merit also?

Double standards I reckon.

This guy done a stupid thing, broke the law and now has to take his punishment on the chin.

A lot of people on here said the 21 year old that stole a bike, fell of and died deserved to die because he made a conscious decision to break the law.

We all make a conscious decision to break law every time we twist the throttle and exceed the speed limit.

Bottom line is, if you get caught take it on the chin, aint no point whinging about it.

It was one bloke in a van out of a force of thousands...he didn't set up to catch bikers, he was there to catch all speeders..go and ask your local police authority why they do it instead of whining on an internet forum ( weeks after the event)..( see if you can find many people that actually think at 122 the police should have just ignored it 'cos hes a biker...and after all it was hardly hard work and the dipstick played into their hands doing it on a road that os well known for speed checks..)

You may be surprised to hear that they(the police) didn't hit on the idea themselves but instead are all but begged by large sections of the public to do more and more enforcement..perhaps if a few motorists got off their lazy arses and gave an alternative POV at public meetings, things might change..meanwhile keep venting on the WWW for all the fucking good it will do you
