Police chief calls for TWO bike number plates

Don't panic folks, it's happening in the Philippines

WITH THE rising number of crimes involving the use of motorcycles in the Philippines, the Land Transportation Office has announced it is planning to issue two licence plates to motorcycle owners - front and rear - for easy identification and protection of motorcycle owners.

LTO chief Alberto Suansing said issuing two licence plates can help law enforcers trace owners of motorcycles used in criminal activities as well as those involved in vehicular accidents.

Suansing also said that he will also talk to motorcycle manufacturers to ask them if they provide a space in the front of the motorcycle where they can attach the other plate.

They've had front plates in India for years. Makes a right mess of the front ends! At least most bikes over there are naked/ half faired so almost get away with it, God knows where you'd fit a plate on a 1098

Me hopes the DfT aren't reading this...

Biker Biggles

The reason the requirement for front plates was done away with in this country was to prevent peoples throats being cut by the plate in an accident. This actually happened when a bike was in collision with a pedestrian in about 1970something and off came the plates.

35 years later and scamera surveillance and big brother are far more influential when it comes to policy, hence the constant calls to reverse the law.

Of course no one is suggesting they revert to them being displayed length ways, so no reason to think that enforcement is going to be used to undermine safety

PS do you have any links to the UK authorities 'constant calls to reverse the law'????

I, for one, would be most displeased if this ever looked like it could become a reality.

Stu Pid..
I have trouble fitting a plate on the back of me 1098, let alone the front

sidekick

we need to stop speeding through front facing safety cameras if you want this issue to fade away.

and you can guess as soon as something has been implemented on the front end then we'll have to start paying congestion charge aswell.

Stop Speeding? Don't be stupid!!

Next, you'll be asking us to stop Wanking?

Just Micro-Chip the whole fucking Country so they can see where we are 24 hours a day? FFS, whatever next, Civil Liberties? Yeh right!!

From Septemebr you will be microchipped, well all new plates will be anyways. So I cannot see this happening.

Maybe they will introduce chipped plates but how will that catch a speeder? There are no system by the road side to read them and the UK govt won't spend the money on doing it. Furthermore, it still won't stop locally made illegally sized letter number plates on bikes like 40% are now.
