Pink Floyd drummer plumps for Bandit 650

Nick Mason shuns supercar fleet for two-wheel London commute

Mason's chuffed with his Bandit 650. Honest.

HE MAY WELL be one of the world's most successful musicians, owning a multi-million pound fleet of supercars, but Pink Floyd drummer, Nick Mason, has opted for two wheels by taking delivery of a Suzuki Bandit 650S.

Mason, an original member of the iconic 60's rock group, chose the Bandit for his daily commute into London and now shares the bike with his wife, Annette, who uses it for commuting and weekend rides, too.

Talking about the Bandit, Nick commented, "I've had many bikes over the years including some big adventure models, but for beating London congestion the Bandit's proved to be perfect. It's agile enough to cut through traffic and has more than enough power when you leave town. With its fairing offering added weather protection, it's been great when the weather hasn't too".

Why, I wonder, would Nick Mason want to participate in a publicity shot for Suzuki? The bike costs about the same as a wiper blade for any one of his cars, so unless the 'Dark side of the Moon' royalties have dried up I'm puzzled. Still, maybe it's simply the fact that he's discovered the benefits of biking reach further than money. We'll see. Doesn't smile much though, does he?

If you'd bought a Bandit would you smile?

"User 74323" um.. yes i would smile if i brought a bandit.. cause there just as much fun as any other sports bike... Plus the added bonus of being a cheap run around that will do everything you want it to do ( including corners )

these are'nt the droids were looking for - Blimey fella you are a grumpy f*cker aren't yaa ?

I think it's rather nice to see a fella who is obscenely rich buying a commuter bike rather than some noncy top of the range Duke to rattle around town on.

Back in about 1987 I was working in a private recording studio (belonging to another Rock Star). Answering the door one day there was what I took to be a bike courier standing there.

He was wearing well used biker kit and a Honda something was parked nearby that looked like it had seen better days. He asked to see the Rock Star (not his real name I said 'who shall I say's calling?'. He said "Nick Mason"....  He laughed at my embarrassment and said it happened a lot!

I met him many times after that and I can tell you he takes bikes seriously (well, a Bandit - I know, I know) and he has great sense of humour. Thoroughly nice chap and unpretentious actually... Not like some I've met...

Absolutely NOT! The amount of swearing must make your mum proud though.
