MOTOGP legend Valentino Rossi made his first visit to the Isle of Man to check out the TT. Rossi watch the TT Superbike race at Bray Hill, eagle-eyed as the bikes flew past at 170mph+. Rossi was even heard saying "Fack" as Guy Martin flew by.

Rossi handed out the awards after the first race of the 2009 Isle of Man calendar, the TT Superbike, which was won by John McGuinness, with Steve Plater in second and Guy Martin in third.

Straight after the presentation, some might say almost by surprise, Rossi jumped on a 2009 Yamaha R1 flanked by Giacomo Agostini and assorted members of the press. The group headed out for a lap of the TT course, where Valentino witnessed the roads where legends like McGuinness hit near 200mph speeds on their way to averaging a 130mph lap.

Could Valentino lap the TT as quick as McGuinness? We'll leave it up to you to decide, but judging by the top three finishers, he'd need to ditch Yamaha for Honda..

there are 3 things I dream about when it comes to bikes, in no particular order they are:

Rossi to race at the TT... he is the most talented rider of all time (FACT!) and if others such as Steve Plater can come to the island relatively 'late' and have success then I have no doubt that '#46' could do the same.

To race with GHOST RIDER in GR 6... the Gixxer 1000, the Busa  When I bought my black Alpinestars 'Stage' leathers, black 'SP2' gloves, black 'S-MX' boots, black 'Astro Race' Arai with token black visor and my black Suzuki I had one person in mind- sorry Rossi but you change your gear more often than I change my underwear so couldn't follow you! [I know GR used Dainese then Roleff]

Rossi+Schumi to have a race using both F1 cars and GP bikes... apparently Schumi isn't half bad on a bike and Rossi has done blistering times in a Ferrari F1 car, who would win if they pair did say 20 laps in a car then switched in the pits to a GP bike for another 20? I would not miss that for anything!

too many hard kerbs, lack of run of areas and sand pits

Rossi and Schumi may post good times in each others sport which to us seems like they would do well.

However it's not the getting within a second or so per lap that matters, it's that last little bit that's so difficult to achieve and it's that last little bit that seperates the 'good' rider/driver from the 'great' one.

That's the difference between on the podium or being mid pack.

One is good in a car one is good on a motorcycle, there is no comparison

yeah there is,both take size 10 shoes, both speak english, both like weetabix for breakfast, both sleep at nights, both breathe air.....this list is endless.....how can you say there is no comparison ??

ghost R

my idea wasn't to compare the two!!!

it was to have a race to see overall who would win for example over 40 laps of a track such as Le-Mans...

both doing half race distance in an F1 car then both doing the other half on GP bikes...

obviously Schumi would be be winning after the first 20 laps as he is faster than Rossi in a car but as Rossi is faster then Schumi on a bike he'd have tthe advantage over the last 20 laps!

overall it's be close as to who would win!

the race would answer the question "is Rossi a better driver than Schumi is a rider?"

the only thing that has come close to this sort of magnificant race was when maurice greene (100m world record holder at the time) took on michael johnson (400m world record older at the time) over a race of 200m! that was legendary!

fair point well made barbera

User 74323
there is no comparison because one is four wheels, you can't fall off and one is two wheels, you can fall off.  If you go down the route of 40 laps each you would end up with fatigue affecting the riding/driving, so although it is a fair point well made, there could never be a fair comparison

These are'nt the droids were looking for!
Yes this is all very well, but who would win in a game of "off ground touch?"

Posted: 10/06/2009 at 11:18

User 74323
what's that then

Posted: 10/06/2009 at 11:36

iMarcus

off ground touch:

Rules

<div align="left">

1. Make sure you know who is IT and that it is fair.

2. IT chases everyone. If they touch someone then that person becomes IT.

3.If you are off the ground you can not be touched.

4.You can only stay off -ground for a count of ten.
