Oxfordshire speed cameras redundant from Sunday

Seventy-two speed traps axed following £600,000 budget cut

SPEED CAMERAS in Oxfordshire will be switched off this coming Sunday after councillors voted through the first round of more than £200m of cuts expected over the next five years.

The move follows the announcement that the Government is to slash £600,000 of funding for the Thames Valley Safer Roads Partnership; all 72 of the county's fixed Speed cameras and seven traffic light cameras being switched off from Sunday.

Beware: If you're planning a celebratory fly-by of a camera near you then think again. Visordown has it on good authority that Oxfordshire plod will still be out-and-about with mobile speed traps; probably very near the existing static camera sites.
