NOTTINGHAMSHIRE POLICE are clamping down on illegal bikers, in a new campaign targeting faulty machinery and unlicenced riders.

So far eight people have been cautioned as part of a police clampdown during roadside checks on the A616 over the last weekend.

BBC News reports 95 machines were examined during the first day of the operation; one was seized and its rider reported for having no insurance.

Sgt John Madin said: "We want to ensure all motorcycles are in a roadworthy condition and are being used legally. If people ride these vehicles without insurance or a licence they will lose them. We want people to be safe on our roads and hope operations like these will help achieve that."
