A SPEEDING BIKER who was clocked at 112mph on has escaped court WITHOUT a driving ban.

Ian Dunsmore, 43, of Hillfoot Gardens, Uddingston, was caught travelling at almost double the speed limit on the road on 6 September on the A&, reports today's BBC News.

The court took into the account that Dunsmore had not put anyone else in danger, even though he had been riding at almost double the posted speed limit.

Dunsmore was fined him £300. His licence was endorsed with six points.

Fair punishment?

Gotta be better than a prison sentence...

Could have been better, a mate got pulled at 110mph in a 306 and they haven't done anything, just sent a letter saying they wouldnt do him this time...

"Dunsmore was fined him £300"

So the defendant gets to fine the court now does he?

 That was jammy though, I got £1500/6pts for 120 in a 60.

Sounds like a fair punishment to me.

I agree that there should be strict speed limits enforced in built-up areas, around schools and dangerous junctions etc.  However, if the road conditions were good and he wasn't putting anyone else in danger then points and a fine is reasonable.  A ban or prison sentence would be ridiculous, with 6 points on his license he will probably drive/ride more carfully now.

What I don't agree with is speeding penalties (and being made to feel like a 5 year old by the police) for people doing 45mph in a 40mph zone on clear open roads.  These people are not a great risk and a better use of police time/resources would be targeting the other areas mentioned above, or drunk drivers, or drivers without insurance etc.

I know this will probably be an unpopular comment but there you go.

Bikers who speed like this give all other relatively law abiding bikers a bad name and attract unwanted attention to bikers as a whole. On an A class road there is absolutely no defence for travelling at those speeds. For instance you just need one idiot driver from the "I didn't see you brigade" to be coming out a side road on a bend and its game over. If you want to drive at those speeds then go to a race track and do a track day. Thats what they are for. Once again another reason for the politicians and news hounds to lambast the british biking nation. Just wait for the backlash.

spot on penalty. Not too lean at all. with todays modern cars and bikes, 100+ mph is not hard to control. granted it takes longer to stop the vehicle in question, but the result of a smash at 60 or 70 is going to have the same result as at 112 mph - end ex!

If the rider had a pillion, that would be a dif matter, but as no one was at risk bar the rider... it's a victimless crime - ergo fine and points is the way to go.

The judge that gave 9 months inside to a rider in Scotland for doing 166mph is a tool -his 5 year ban is already excessive prison too?! 2 year ban £1000 fine would be more realistic imo!!

Get a Car Pal The question to be asked is why make and sell a machine capable of 170+ and then moan about someone puting it to the test Change the law or buy a car

Got away lightly.

Action like this gives young rider the idea that they are OK to do what they like and get away with it, it's the inexperienced that often get themselves killed.

These sorts of actions will result in a ban on sales of vehicles that are capable of ridiculusly high speeds and spoil it for those who want to use a road bike on track.

thats strange the nut jobs in court normally send you to prison with the rapists and murders for going a little over the speed limit!
